Be cautious as the events of Chicago Fire‘s Season 13 Episode 18, titled “Post-Mortem,” will be revealed. This episode can be streamed the following day with a subscription to Peacock.
In this new phrasing, I’ve tried to make it more conversational and easier to read by using active voice and breaking up the original text into smaller chunks.
In the April 16th broadcast of Chicago Fire, it was highly anticipated that Eamonn Walker would return as Deputy Commissioner Boden. This anticipation was well-founded. Intriguingly, he hinted to TopMob that a fan favorite might depart during the 2025 TV season, and this possibility remains even though no characters were killed off in “Post-Mortem.” Additionally, it was disclosed during the episode that two main cast members will be departing from One Chicago at the end of Season 13. Therefore, Firehouse 51’s family dynamic will undergo changes when fall arrives next year.
Jack Damon Might Be Medically Unfit
In the episode titled “Post-Mortem,” Chicago Fire deviated from its standard structure as the team from Firehouse 51, including Chief Pascal, briefed Boden about a disastrous fire. A firefighter was tragically left behind when the blazing house was evacuated, putting his life in immediate danger. The show skillfully maintained suspense by withholding for a considerable part of the episode the identity of the person undergoing surgery, with potential victims being Cruz and Carver. However, it turned out to be Damon who was left behind due to an unfortunate confluence of events occurring simultaneously.
Thankfully, Damon managed to pull through and appeared only mildly injured, yet the most significant concern isn’t immediately apparent. He confided in Severide that his X-ray showed signs of lung damage, and the full extent won’t be clear until he undergoes a CT scan. The episode ended without disclosing the results of the CT. Severide attempted to comfort his half brother by suggesting there are available treatments regardless of the diagnosis, but Damon is worried because he knows others who “never recovered from this condition.
It seems that Severide assured Damon he would stand by him no matter what transpires, yet it appears his position as a firefighter on Engine could be jeopardized due to medical reasons. This turn of events comes at a time when the brothers’ relationship seemed to be improving after their troubles in the fall. Consequently, there’s speculation that Michael Bradway, portrayed by Taylor Kinney as Damon, may no longer be part of the series, pending confirmation. However, we can anticipate the revelation of two firefighter characters who are nearing their final episodes.

Two Firefighters Are Leaving
Regrettably, for enthusiasts of “Chicago Fire” watching during commercial breaks on April 16, Deadline announced in the midst of an episode that Daniel Kyrie and Jake Lockett would be leaving the show at the end of Season 13. Although the series hasn’t been confirmed for a fourteenth season yet, if it does get renewed, it will continue without Ritter and Gallo in the cast.
It appears that the actors, Kyri and Lockett, aren’t choosing to depart. Instead, reports suggest their departures could be due to cost-cutting measures for Chicago Fire, with sources indicating that the contracts of several long-term stars expire at the end of Season 13 and will need renegotiation. Additionally, more cast changes might occur within the One Chicago universe and two NBC’s Law & Order series during renewal discussions.
Approximately two years after the announcement about NBC’s Wolf Entertainment shows, series regulars like Hanako Greensmith and Jocelyn Hudon would appear less frequently due to cost-cutting measures. Interestingly, both of them were absent from the “Post-Mortem” episode where Eamonn Walker returned.
Although it’s disheartening to hear about the Chicago Fire cast right now, I can’t help but hope for a renewal of all NBC shows within the Dick Wolf universe, given the sudden cancellations of FBI: Most Wanted and FBI: International elsewhere. Fingers crossed that any further cuts are minimal, but we’ll find out soon enough.
