As a long-time fan of Chicago Med, I must say that this season has been nothing short of a rollercoaster ride! The latest episode, “Forget Me Not,” really tested my allegiance between Archer and Lenox. It’s clear they both have strong convictions and are passionate about their patients – qualities I admire in them.
Spoilers ahead for Episode 6 of NBC’s Chicago Med Season 10, called “Forget Me Not.”
It appeared as though Archer and Lenox might collaborate amicably on the set of Chicago Med this coming fall, according to the 2024 TV schedule, but the episode “Forget Me Not” clearly showed otherwise! Instead, they found themselves working on the same teenage patient who had been injured in a rockslide at a disciplinary camp. The only thing they seemed to agree on was their shared disdain for these types of camps. Young Jordan had sustained a brain injury that required either medical or surgical treatment, and, as expected, Archer and Lenox arrived at contrasting solutions.
In conclusion, the teenager met a tragic end, a warning was delivered, and it seems this event took them over an irreversible limit unless something changes. Despite Archer being among my preferred One Chicago characters, I’m hesitant about who to support, as the promo hints that someone will depart from the ED.
The Case That Went Wrong
In this episode (streaming with a Peacock subscription), there were two possible treatments for the injured teenager, but neither was ideal. One approach involved continued medical treatment and constant monitoring of his brain condition, keeping surgery as a last resort. The other option was immediate surgery, which offered the best chance of success rather than waiting for his condition to worsen first.
Archer opted to continue with the medication and keep his fingers crossed; on the other hand, Lenox preferred surgery, backed by Dr. Abrams. Archer successfully convinced Abrams to postpone the procedure until Jordan’s parents could be contacted, leaving Lenox in a predicament… until she discovered that the camp director had the legal authority to decide on Jordan’s treatment without his parents being present.
In essence, Jordan was taken for surgery with Dr. Abrams performing and Dr. Lenox assisting. Regrettably, his health deteriorated rapidly, and he passed away during the procedure despite every attempt to resuscitate him. Later, a visibly emotional Dr. Lenox asked Archer to back off when he approached her, saying “Let it be” or “Wait with it.
Given that it’s Archer we’re discussing, there’s no question he didn’t intervene! He fiercely accused her of being responsible for the situation and stated that Jordan would still be alive if not for her actions. Lenox remained steadfast in her belief, calling Jordan a “tickling time bomb,” suggesting the surgery provided him a lifeline. She reminded them that sometimes, patients simply don’t make it, and Archer isn’t infallible. With tempers flaring, Archer threatened that she would have to answer for this.
Who Should We Side With?
I tend to support Archer due to my fondness for him after his connection with Hannah revealed a softer side of his character. However, Archer’s charm doesn’t equate to infallibility, and he hasn’t given Lenox a fair chance in the ED since discovering they were both contenders for the chief position. As Sarah Ramos put it to TopMob, if Lenox behaved towards Archer as he does towards her, she would have been dismissed from her job.
Despite Lenox not showing much enthusiasm for Halloween or wearing a costume, her compassion for her patients was evident, as she appeared just as distressed following Jordan’s demise as Hannah did after losing a patient recently. Archer wasn’t venting to an inanimate object at the episode’s close, and it’s significant that Dr. Abrams consented to perform the surgery without any pressure from Steven Weber‘s character berating him in a corridor.
Then again, Lenox was pretty sneaky in how she got consent to do the surgery from a man she openly considered despicable, and there’s no way of saying that continuing to treat Jordan medically rather than surgery wouldn’t have worked. And based on the promo, somebody might have to go from the ED. Take a look:
It remains uncertain whether Goodwin learned about the events in “Forget Me Not” and concluded that Archer and Lenox cannot collaborate effectively. I’m intrigued to know if she might take any self-blame for the strain, given that she unexpectedly informed Archer of Lenox’s promotion as co-chief of the ED without prior notice, despite her good intentions. While his reaction isn’t necessarily her fault, it could have been avoided with a heads up.
Tune in to find out what’s coming up for Archer and Lenox in the latest episodes of Chicago Med, airing Wednesdays at 8 p.m. ET on NBC.
