Chicago Med’s Fall Finale Cliffhanger Is Going To Keep Me Stressed About Goodwin Until 2025, But That Final Shot Was Incredible

As a seasoned gamer of One Chicago’s emotional rollercoaster, I can confidently say that NBC’s primetime is a unique battlefield where every episode feels like a high-stakes mission. The fall finale of Chicago Med, “Love Will Tear Us Apart,” took the tension to new heights with a cliffhanger that left me on the edge of my seat (or couch) until the 2025 TV schedule.

Spoilers ahead for the fall finale of Chicago Med Season 10, called “Love Will Tear Us Apart.”

In prime-time television, there’s no other network quite like NBC during their “One Chicago” block when it comes to nail-biting finale cliffhangers. The 2024 season finale of “Chicago Med” took things a step further than I ever anticipated! The episode titled “Love Will Tear Us Apart” revealed the identity of the stalker terrorizing Goodwin, but instead of one of the Chicago P.D. officers apprehending the culprit, it was Goodwin herself who ended up stabbed. Archer is her only hope for survival, but his chances to save her seem slim. This unexpected turn of events has left me on edge until Chicago Med returns in the 2025 TV schedule, yet the final moments of the episode were nothing short of breathtaking.

In the major twist of Season 10, it turned out that Goodwin’s stalker was none other than Cassidy, a character from earlier in the season. This name might not be familiar to you, as it wasn’t to Goodwin either until her attacker clarified: Cassidy’s wife was Wendy, one of two critical patients who required the last remaining blood units during the Season 10 premiere. Tragically, Wendy passed away when the man responsible for the crisis received the blood, as decided by Goodwin. This led Cassidy to seek revenge.

Unfortunately, Goodwin was expected to be off during Thanksgiving, which meant her typical stream of visitors wasn’t around when she needed help after being stabbed in her office. She managed to outwit Cassidy by keeping her occupied long enough to reach for her phone, but a call from Maggie at an inconvenient moment tipped her off that Goodwin was concealing the device. The two were left sitting in darkness as Goodwin’s injuries continued to bleed.

In an unexpected manner, Archer, who had been demoted from co-ED Chief by Goodwin and kept Lenox in the top position, emerged as a possible savior. Despite promising Hannah that he would wait 24 hours before submitting his resignation letter, he made up his mind, slipped the envelope under Goodwin’s door instead. Just as Cassidy covered Goodwin’s mouth upon hearing movement in the hallway, a potentially fatal situation unfolded…

Instead of Sharon Goodwin, it was none other than her! As Cassidy slightly tilted her head, the former nurse-turned-administrator swiftly seized a bottle, struck her assailant on the head, and darted into the hallway, almost collapsing as she chased after Archer before he descended in the elevator. In the climax of the episode, Cassidy sneaked up behind her with the intention of plunging a knife into her back… only for the elevators to close just as Archer stepped in.

It’s hard to do the final shot of Cassidy standing over Goodwin justice in a still frame, and you should definitely watch (or rewatch) the episode with a Peacock subscription for the full experience, but I think Archer’s horrified reaction says it all:

As a devoted fan of One Chicago, I can’t help but feel on edge about Goodwin’s future, especially as we approach the winter premiere of Chicago Med in the new year. But this isn’t a bad thing; it’s actually exciting! With Steven Weber describing this season as “getting grittier” under a new showrunner, I’m eagerly anticipating what’s to come. The chilling final shot from “Love Will Tear Us Apart” is downright terrifying – in the best possible way!

So far as Goodwin remains alive, gets well, and takes part in the upcoming Three-Act One Chicago Crossover, here’s what we have to look forward to – make sure to catch the winter premiere preview!

It appears that Chicago Med will continue from where it ended in the upcoming year. Although it’s unfortunate for Goodwin that Archer couldn’t halt the elevator immediately upon seeing her stumble out of her office, I must say that a skilled former Navy trauma surgeon could certainly come to the rescue!

Don’t miss NBC on Wednesday, January 8th for the winter return of Chicago Med Season 10 at 8 pm Eastern Time. This will be followed by Chicago Fire Season 13 at 9 pm and Chicago P.D. Season 10 at 10 pm ET. If you can’t watch live, you can stream all three shows on Peacock right now.
