Chicago P.D. Producer Addresses Fans’ Outrage Over Missing Wedding Vows in Season Finale!

One of the show’s producers has addressed fan concerns about the Season 12 finale, specifically that it lacked the wedding vows between characters Burgess and Ruzek.

Gwen Sigan, the showrunner for Chicago P.D., discussed why a significant wedding scene didn’t air and whether viewers might witness more of the nuptials in the future. However, her response was not encouraging. “Probably not,” she said about the likelihood of revisiting the wedding. She also mentioned that there could potentially be an episode focusing on the wedding, but she is doubtful about it.

She mentioned that they put considerable thought into writing the vows. It seems as they were crafting all these interwoven storylines, it became crucial for the entire team to maintain a cohesive theme. In many aspects, this episode was about Voight, and integrating the wedding into this narrative proved challenging. They aimed for just the right tone, she added.

Instead of contrasting a joyful event, such as a wedding, with the intense emotions experienced by Chapman (Sara Bues) and Voight (Jason Beghe), it seemed inappropriate to pair something so sweet. It felt too abrupt, so we opted for a different approach, focusing more on the conversation between Chapman and Voight instead.

Sigan has clarified that the series won’t feature the unseen footage of the wedding vows, as they didn’t shoot any additional scenes. However, he hinted that there might be possibilities for new directions in future seasons.

“An Interesting Dynamic”: Chicago P.D. Showrunner on Season 13’s Story

Since Burgess and Ruzek tied the knot, there’s excitement about how this will impact the dynamics of the show “Chicago P.D.” Even though the writers haven’t started crafting specific storylines just yet, they are eager to explore the on-screen dynamic of the newlywed couple, drawing parallels with another couple from the same show. Sigan remarks, “Writing a married couple should be quite interesting. We’ve barely had a married couple on the show since Halstead and Upton were, but their marriage was filled with tension.

The harmonious union between Burgess and Ruzek in the upcoming season of Chicago P.D, may provide fresh avenues to test the show’s characters beyond their usual limits. As Sigan hinted, “It’ll seem a bit unusual. Yes, I think it will be a challenge, and I believe it will be intriguing to observe this domestic dynamic unfold. However, this newfound stability at home might encourage them to take more risks at work, which could result in some exciting and unprecedented developments.

Season 12 of Chicago P.D. is now streaming on Peacock.
