As a gamer with a soft spot for movies and TV shows, I was deeply saddened to hear about the untimely demise of Hudson Meek. He was more than just an actor to me; he was a young talent who brought life to the screen, especially in his memorable role as Young Baby Driver.
16-year-old Hudson Meek, who gained fame for playing the young version of the main character in the popular action film “Baby Driver,” and who also had roles in several television series, tragically passed away following an accident where he fell from a moving vehicle in Alabama.
On December 19th in Vestavia Hills, Alabama, Meek tragically met with an accident which claimed his life. As Chief Deputy Coroner Bill Yates stated to AL.com, he suffered severe injuries after falling from a moving vehicle onto the road. He was then rushed to a nearby hospital where he passed away peacefully on December 21st, surrounded by loved ones and in the presence of his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, as mentioned in an obituary posted on Searcy Funeral Homes’ website.
It’s deeply sad to announce that Hudson Meek has passed away, returning to the embrace of Jesus tonight,” stated a post on his Instagram. “Regrettably, his 16 years here were all too brief, yet during this time, he achieved so much and left an indelible mark on every person he encountered.
A student in his sophomore year at Vestavia Hills High School, he was part of the Vestavia Hills Rebel Football Team. The obituary mentioned that aside from football, he held deep passions for various other things: his faith, animated series The Simpsons (having watched all 36 seasons), his cherished friends, water activities, anything related to forests, traveling, and acting.
Prior to landing the role of Young Baby Driver in Edgar Wright’s 2010 action comedy, Meek had modest appearances in TV shows and short films. This role catapulted his career when it became a hit both critically and commercially. Subsequently, he added credits to his resume with appearances on the television series MacGyver, Legacies, and Found.
Hudson is left behind by his parents, Derek Firth Meek and Lani Wells Meek; his elder brother, Tucker Firth Meek; as well as his grandmothers, Margaret Green Meek and Faye Searcy Wells. A service to honor his life will take place on Dec 28 at Dawson Memorial Baptist Church in Homewood, Alabama.
