Many film enthusiasts recognize Chloë Grace Moretz primarily for her impressive performances in the Kick-Ass movies alongside Aaron Taylor-Johnson. However, this versatile actress is also known for her role in the controversial 2013 remake of Stephen King’s iconic Carrie (1976). Moretz has consistently taken on intricate characters within dark storylines throughout her career, and she is set to star in the upcoming serial killer thriller titled The Edge of Normal directed by Piggy filmmaker Carlota Pereda. Here’s a brief summary of the movie:
The Edge of Normal follows the storyline… (provide the synopsis)
Reeve LeClaire continues to be tormented by memories of being kidnapped as a teenager by a cruel individual, but when her psychologist encourages her to guide a freshly rescued victim, she is unwillingly drawn into a chilling game of hide-and-seek that could potentially lead her back into the horrifying ordeal from which she barely managed to escape.
Come springtime, I’m thrilled to share that I’ll be part of the production crew for a new film titled “The Edge of Normal,” brought to us by the renowned XYZ Films. The script was written by Matt Venne, who previously penned the chilling tales of 2013’s “Fright Night 2” and “Dexter: Resurrection.” Lori Evans Taylor, with her impressive work on “Wicked Wicked Games” and “Final Destination: Bloodlines,” has polished the script. What makes this even more exciting is that it will be the directorial debut of Pereda in an English-language feature film!
The story “The Edge of Normal” is adapted from Carla Norton’s 2013 book of the same title. Known as a bestselling author of both fiction and true crime, Norton launched her writing career in Tokyo, where she served as an editor for the Japanese edition of Reader’s Digest. It wasn’t long before the concept for her acclaimed psychological thriller would take shape during her time in Japan’s capital city.
Will ‘The Edge of Normal’ Do the Source Material Justice?
The novel “The Edge of Normal” by Carla Norton could potentially be one of the most successful book-to-movie adaptations, given that the creative team remains faithful to the intricately developed source material. With nearly 400 pages, this suspenseful tale has already captured readers’ attention and even inspired a subsequent installment in the Reeve LeClaire series titled “What Doesn’t Kill Her”. If you’re a fan of Chloë Grace Moretz and are eager to learn more about her upcoming psychological thriller, here is a comprehensive summary of the book “The Edge of Normal”:
Reeva LeClaire may appear to be an ordinary young woman, yet her past is anything but typical. She was once kidnapped and held captive for an extended period, only to miraculously escape. With the help of Dr. Lerner, a renowned psychiatrist specializing in captivity disorders, Reeva has managed to rebuild her life. When Dr. Lerner asks her to assist another girl who has been rescued from a similar ordeal, Reeva tries her best. However, as she mentors the girl, a clever villain is observing their actions closely…. As Reeva begins uncovering dark secrets, she finds herself inexorably drawn into a dangerous game that ultimately leads to the predator’s trap.
Due to her fascination with real-life crimes, Norton teamed up with prosecutor Christine McGuire to write the top-selling book, “Perfect Crime” (1991). She also penned “Disturbed Ground” (1994), another non-fiction work, which was influenced by the horrific acts of Dorothea Puente, a notorious landlady known as the “Death House Landlady.” Norton’s book, “The Edge of Normal,” wasn’t released until 2013, but its themes suggest it was heavily influenced by her earlier work in true crime.
It’s yet unclear if “The Edge of Normal” will be one of Chloë Grace Moretz’s finest performances, but if the film remains true to Norton’s compelling source material, this psychological thriller could potentially make a strong addition to Moretz’s impressive acting portfolio.
