Chris Evans Had The Coolest Reaction To Ryan Reynolds’ Suggestion For The Deadpool And Wolverine End Credits Scene, But I’m Still Shocked At How It Came Together

As a longtime comic book enthusiast who has witnessed the evolution of the genre from the pages to the silver screen, I must say that Shawn Levy’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” was nothing short of an exhilarating ride through nostalgia lane! The film seamlessly intertwined elements from the 20th Century Fox era with the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU), offering a delightful blend of old and new.

In the thrill of Shawn Levy’s “Deadpool & Wolverine” hitting the big screen, it was like a heartfelt tribute to the comic book movie era of 20th Century Fox, merging seamlessly with the ongoing Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) saga. It was a delight to witness the reappearance of cherished characters such as Elektra, portrayed by Jennifer Garner, and Blade, played by Wesley Snipes – an event that might’ve inadvertently caused a delay for the latest incarnation of Blade. Chris Evans even got another shot at playing Johnny Storm before Marvel decided to reboot The Fantastic Four. Yet, the icing on the cake was Evans’ expletive-filled cameo during the end credits of “Deadpool & Wolverine”. The film editors later shared the hilarious behind-the-scenes story of how that scene was put together.

If you’ve watched the movie Deadpool & Wolverine, it’s likely that you’ve come across its ending credit scene where Johnny Storm (Chris Evans) admits to the cruel things he said about Cassandra Nova (Emma Corrin). Previously, we believed that Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) was deceiving us with this accusation against Johnny for his own benefit. However, film editors Dean Zimmerman and Shane Reid revealed that Evans was always willing to play along with this bizarre ending.

We spoke with Zimmerman and Reid about their work on Deadpool & Wolverine, which currently is available on Digital and Blu-ray. When it came to that last Evans scene, Zimmerman told us:

I clearly recall the incident taking place. We were filming on a street in New York at the time. Chris made an appearance on set. He strolled onto the New York Street to greet us. It was our first encounter, and we sat in a barber’s shop on the same street. Ryan unexpectedly approached Chris, saying something like, ‘Hey Chris, I have this concept for an ending coda. You’ll deliver some of the dialogue here, but these are the exact words you should use, which I’ll repeat later. Would you be open to doing it?’ Chris responded enthusiastically, ‘I’m up for anything you suggest.’ And that very day, he received the script! He learned his lines quickly, memorized them, and performed in just one take. There were three cameras rolling, and that was it.

It’s amazing how well the Deadpool movies seem to flow together spontaneously in the moment, despite the hard work and planning that goes into sequences like the “Bye Bye Bye” opening. However, Ryan Reynolds’ knack for improvisation regularly results in jokes and asides being added even up until the film is ready for theaters.

As Zimmerman explained to TopMob:

In a sense, Ryan’s relationship was the catalyst for their growth and advancement to unprecedented heights. The faith that everyone placed in him as the author of their journey was truly remarkable. The process felt incredibly natural and organic, as if it was destined to unfold this way. It was almost as if we all agreed, ‘Yes, this is exactly what needs to happen.’ And indeed, it was a stroke of genius. The outcome was nothing short of fantastic.

Including Chris Evans’ memorable scenes in both “Deadpool” and “Wolverine”, these moments are a key factor behind our decision to include this Blu-ray in our Marvel Cinematic Universe collection. Given the uncertainty surrounding when more Deadpool universe stories might be released, it’s essential that we savor the ones currently available.
