Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ Adds ‘Sons of Anarchy’ Actor Ryan Hurst

Ryan Hurst, famous for his significant roles in FX’s “Sons of Anarchy” and AMC’s “The Walking Dead,” has signed on to be part of the esteemed cast of Christopher Nolan’s upcoming movie, which is an adaptation of Homer’s classic poem, “The Odyssey.

The Universal Project is currently live, boasting a star-studded cast that features big names like Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Anne Hathaway, Charlize Theron, Benny Safdie, and Jon Bernthal.

The list of names on this document also features Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, Benny Safdie, and Cosmo Jarvis, as well as several others.

Universal characterizes the upcoming movie as a “global mythic action epic,” filmed using cutting-edge IMAX technology across various locations worldwide. This movie adaptation of Homer’s classic tale will make its debut on IMAX screens for the first time ever, opening in cinemas nationwide on July 17, 2026.

Damon portrays King Odysseus in Nolan’s adaptation of Homer’s epic poem, recounting his arduous, decade-long voyage back to Ithaca following the Trojan War. This odyssey is marked by divinely orchestrated detours and interference from the gods, as well as encounters with fearsome creatures like Cyclopes. Furthermore, the narrative delves into the struggles of Odysseus’ wife and adult son who face unwelcome advances from suitors aiming for the throne during his prolonged absence.

Since the 1990s, Hurst has graced both films like “Remember the Titans” and “We Were Soldiers”, as well as many TV series such as “Bates Motel”. Yet, it’s his portrayal of burly and faithful Opie Winston on the acclaimed “Sons of Anarchy” that brought him significant acknowledgement.

Recently, Hurst has taken on leading roles in the Disney+ television series “Mysterious Benedict Society,” an adaptation of Trenton Lee Stewart’s popular books, and will soon appear in the Netflix series “The Abandons” alongside Lena Headey and Gillian Anderson.
