Christopher Reeve’s youngest child, Will Reeve, has no plans to don the cape and suit as the iconic character Superman, a role his father, Christopher Reeve, brought to life so spectacularly. The reason for this is straightforward: Will doesn’t feel the same compulsion towards acting that his parents did. Instead, at 32 years old, Will’s passion lies in journalism, much like Clark Kent, Superman’s human alter ego. This shared interest between Will and Clark Kent caught the eye of Kelly Ripa during an interview on the “Live with Kelly and Mark” talk show. Intrigued, Ripa asked if Will had ever been offered the role of Kal-El from Krypton, to which he replied that he has not.
No, I’ve never gotten the ask.
Beyond being a true-life journalist working for ABC and functioning as a correspondent, Reeve also shares a striking resemblance with his father. This could make it relatively easy for him to portray the character, but if Reeve had been offered to wear the iconic red-and-blue suit, he would have declined the offer. Reeve clarified his reasoning to Ripa and co-host Mark Consuelos by stating:
“I appreciate the offer, but I don’t feel it aligns with my current career path.
From a young age, influenced by my parents who were skilled entertainers, I understood that to thrive, particularly in the entertainment industry but also in any field, one must embrace their craft as fundamentally as breathing. It should be an integral part of your identity. For myself, I participated in school plays and various activities, yet these weren’t necessities; they were simply extensions of who I was. As a driven individual, I recognized the importance of focusing my efforts on things that truly ignite my passion, which ultimately steered me towards journalism.
Will Reeve Was “Terrified” by His Cameo in James Gunn’s ‘Superman’
In July 2024, it was announced that Christopher Reeve’s son, Will, was seen filming for James Gunn’s eagerly awaited Superman movie. However, it appears that Reeve won’t have a significant role in the film. Instead, he is expected to make a brief appearance as per anticipation, but he will deliver just one line in what is referred to as a crucial scene (according to Variety). Additionally, during his appearance on Live with Kelly and Mark, Reeve shared that he was quite nervous while working on the DCU production.
As a cinephile, experiencing that level of fear on set was reminiscent of my days as a journalist. Recently, I’ve been fortunate enough to land a single line in the upcoming Superman movie, set for release in July. The director, James Gunn, has been nothing short of amazing towards me and my family. He extended an invitation saying, “How would you like to be part of this project?” To which, I replied, “Why not?”
Upon receiving the script, everything but my line was blacked out. So, I’m in the dark about the movie’s plot. I arrived at the set in Cleveland, making it a day trip, and there I was – with just one line to deliver.
Co-host Mark Consuelos then asked if he nailed his single line of dialogue, to which Reeve responded by saying, “No, not at all.” The studio resonated with laughter, but then Reeve revealed that it only took him three takes to get the scene right. The journalist attributed his fumbling of the dialogue to being nervous. “This was pure terror,” Reeve continued. Fans can check out Will Reeve’s cameo when Superman opens in theaters on July 11.
Currently, the compelling documentary “Super/Man: The Christopher Reeve Story” is streamable on Max. This moving and emotionally charged production explores the life of the late actor, detailing the devastating horseback riding accident that left him paralyzed, as well as showcasing how the Reeve family united to confront the daunting hardships that arose afterward. Notably, both Christopher’s other children, Matthew and Alexandra, contributed to the film alongside his son Will.
