As a seasoned movie enthusiast with decades of cinema-going under my belt, I can hardly contain my excitement for CinemaCon 2025! The return of Sony Pictures Entertainment and the debut of Amazon MGM Studios at this prestigious event promises a spectacle like no other. It’s like the Oscars colliding with Comic-Con, all in the heart of Las Vegas!

Get ready for a busier CinemaCon 2025.

As a gamer, I’m excited to share that after a year-long break, Sony Pictures Entertainment is back on the scene, ready to unveil their lineup at the annual event for theater owners and Hollywood studios. For the first time ever, Amazon MGM Studios will also be stepping into the limelight, gracing the grand stage of the Colosseum theater at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas! It’s going to be an epic showdown!

I’m part of the thrilled audience, enthusiastically following a show that’s orchestrated by the National Association of Theatre Owners – a powerful organization that advocates for countless cinemas not just in North America, but globally.

In his second year as NATO’s president-CEO, Michael O’Leary made an announcement on Thursday during a breakfast at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Los Angeles. His statement read: “We are delighted and privileged to have all our studio partners rejoin us this year, with Amazon MGM Studios also joining our CinemaCon roster as evidence of their commitment to the cinema-going experience.

Sony’s comeback now brings all four traditional film giants into the mix – Disney, Paramount Pictures, and Universal Pictures/Focus Features are already part of it, as is Lionsgate. MGM, with further programming details to follow, will also join this group.

At CinemaCon 2025, which takes place from March 31 to April 3, there was a significant setback in 2024 when Sony chose not to participate in the event, opting instead to allocate their presentation budget towards consumer marketing initiatives.

Mitch Neuhauser, CinemaCon’s managing director, expressed his appreciation for the ongoing backing from movie studios, directors, actors, suppliers, as well as our valued NATO members – the cinema theater owners.

O’Leary emphasized, “This impressive gathering of the world’s leading film-making studios underscores the significant influence of cinema, culturally and economically. The studios understand that audiences crave the enchantment they create on the big screen. They also recognize that films originating in theaters tend to be more successful than those that do not.

Following a challenging 2024 at the box office, affected by last year’s labor disputes and scarcity of releases, there’s optimism for an improvement in 2025. Sony’s marquee films for the upcoming year include the summer blockbuster “Karate Kid: Legends”.

On the heels of being recognized with top industry awards at CinemaCon, Sean Gamble – CEO of one of the three largest cinema circuits in the nation – participated in Thursday’s breakfast gathering a few days later. CinemaCon is renowned not only for its movie theater chain executives but also for hosting an award show that celebrates both filmmakers and talented actors.

Just like Apple Original Studios, Amazon MGM is dedicating resources to backing theatrical releases by offering certain movies a conventional theatrical premiere before they become available on their streaming platforms.

At CinemaCon, partnerships are forged with the International Cinema Technology Association (ICTA) and the National Association of Concessionaires (NAC), two key entities in the field.
