Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Badly Needs a Photo Mode

During my adventure through the broken realms of “Clair Obscur: Expedition 33,” it’s more evident than ever that the game could greatly benefit from incorporating a snapshot feature. The incredible vistas and intricate details I’ve encountered have left me longing to preserve them, and without this option, I find myself feeling a sense of loss. A well-designed snapshot feature would enable me to pause and appreciate the game’s stunning landscape or closely examine the unique costumes my companions wear.

The built-in screenshot function on PlayStation 5 is convenient, yet it consistently captures the same fixed perspective (even when paused, it doesn’t change). While this works in an emergency, it can’t compare to the versatility of a genuine photo mode, where you could adjust the camera angle, zoom in or out, and seize breathtaking shots that would make excellent desktop wallpapers.

In numerous instances, there are scenes that seem tailor-made for utilizing such functionality, such as when Lune glides above a windblown meadow, Euphie traverses oceans, or when Maelle mourns silently amid the debris of a battlefield. These poignant, cinematic instances evoke an urge to easily capture them, perhaps by pressing L3 + R3 (or any other predefined shortcut). Unfortunately, in this artistic game, I’m unable to save these significant moments in great detail.

PC gamers enjoy an advantage because they can make use of mods to customize their camera controls, while console players find themselves in a position where we must patiently wait for such features.

It seems Sandfall Interactive hasn’t made any announcements regarding a future photo mode as of now, but I strongly believe they must be aware of the demand by this point. Given the phenomenal success of Expedition 33, selling a million copies in just seven days, it’s evident that gamers are eager to interact with the game on a deeper level. This includes the ability to preserve their own unique experiences and memorable moments through a photo feature.

Currently, the game remains new and unaltered since it’s only been a week or so, with minimal updates thus far. Sandfall Interactive is understandably still basking in the joy of their unprecedented, sudden success. It’s expected that a photo mode feature will be introduced at some point, but we’ll have to stay tuned for further announcements.

So for now, we keep playing—and we continue.
