Navigating through Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 alongside the Paintress and numerous adversaries isn’t a walk in the park. You’ll undoubtedly sustain damage and encounter setbacks, but having an optimized character build like those of fellow expedition members such as Sciel can significantly ease the players’ burden.
In this version, you’ll get to customize Sciel by selecting the most optimal setup for her weapons, attribute emphasis, skills, Pictos, and Luminas, known as the ideal configuration . Sciel can be tailored to deal damage effectively, but she also boasts some of the top-tier support features in the game, making her a valuable companion even with Lune.
Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Best Sciel Build
To put it straightforwardly, I must confess that my preference leans towards Sciel, being my most cherished member of Expedition 33 (though Esquie remains unsurpassed in my affection). Previously a farmer and educator in Lumiere, she now joins this Expedition with the aim to vanquish the Paintress. Her scythe serves as a tribute to her former vocation.
Understanding Sciel’s Kit
In the game, Sciel has a distinctive feature that revolves around her ability called Foretell. Certain abilities (Sun) can be used on opponents, and abilities aligned with the Moon deplete these Foretell stacks. During phases other than Twilight, an enemy’s maximum number of Foretell stacks is limited to 10. To maximize Sciel’s potential, it’s crucial to understand the conditions attached to her skills.
For instance, the Searing Bond ability inflicts damage on flammable foes while also activating Foretell. If you decide to incorporate it into your skill set, particularly during the initial to intermediate phases of the game, it can effectively complement abilities from characters like Maelle, Lune, and Monoco.
As a gamer, when I’ve got both Sun and Moon energy built up, Sciel’s Foretell ability enters the Twilight phase. Here are the effects when I’ve got Sun, Moon, or Twilight energy:
– With Sun charge: Boosted attack power!
– With Moon charge: Enhanced defense for a while!
– In Twilight phase: A mysterious aura surrounds me, granting both attack and defense bonuses!
- Sun: Gives 1 AP per Foretell that is consumed
- Moon: Gives 1 AP per Foretell that is applied
- Twilight: Provides +50% damage and doubles the Foretell applied. The max Foretell stack is also doubled (Maximum stack: 20 Foretell per enemy)

Support / Offensive Build
Sciel’s diverse abilities set her apart among the crew of Expedition 33. During my initial gameplay, I primarily constructed her with both supportive and damaging capabilities in mind. However, due to having Maelle as my damage dealer, her build tends to favor support. Nevertheless, she is capable of dishing out a reasonable amount of damage to enemies while ensuring the team’s survival (suitable for a team setup, given that there are numerous solo builds available now).
Weapon
By considering the strengths of Sciel’s support functions, opting for Rangeson as your preferred weapon is advantageous. You can acquire it after successfully competing against and defeating Jerijeri in a battle at Stone Wall Cliffs, and then make your purchase from him.
- Rangeson
- Element: Dark
- Attribute focus: Defense, Agility
When you initially obtain the weapon, the Level 4 passive ability enables Sciel to restore 5% of her health for every Foretell she uses. At Level 10, it reduces the AP cost of healing abilities by 1. Lastly, at Level 20, Sciel’s heal effectiveness increases by 30% for each Moon charge, and her Base Attack provides 1 Moon charge as well.
- Ramasson
- Element: No specific element
- Attribute focus: Vitality, Luck
An effective tool for enhancing your Support Build “Sciel” is the Ramasson, a weapon I acquired early in the Forgotten Battlefield. It seems it will be obtained following the defeat of the Ramasseur. At level 4, it can utilize one Moon charge, and during its turn, it begins to restore approximately 20% of each ally’s HP. By level 10, her base attack provides 1 Moon charge, while at level 20, using Moon skills gives an additional charge. Not particularly flashy, but it can prove useful if you lack other weapons.

- Charnon
- Element: Void
- Attribute focus: Defense, Luck
In the upcoming game scenario, Sciel will assume the Support role; however, this doesn’t diminish Charnon’s potential as one of Sciel’s most formidable weapons. As the game progresses into its late stages, you’ll encounter numerous AP-generating Pictos and Luminas. Given this, having Charnon, which boosts Sciel’s damage output, becomes quite advantageous. It offers a high number of critical chances and damage, but remember to hone your parrying and dodging skills for optimal results.
Skills
At first, I had planned for Sciel to be my main source of damage, primarily due to my strong affection for her character. Yet, it turned out that she possesses abilities that boost damage based on an enemy’s Foretell count. Upon closer examination of her skills, though, I decided a Sub-DPS or Support role would suit her better. Here are the skills that make her an excellent support:
- Plentiful Harvest
- Grim Harvest
- Intervention
- Fortune’s Fury
One of the top allies in the game is Sciel, who excels with her abilities. The spells Plentiful Harvest and Grim Harvest continue to inflict damage while leveraging Sciel‘s Foretell mechanic, offering AP and healing to the team. Intervention allows a member of Expedition 33 to take their turn and grants them 4 AP. Fortune’s Fury is also effective because it doubles an ally’s damage for one turn.
- Final Path
- Twilight Dance
It’s still beneficial to possess some abilities that can inflict damage in her inventory. My preferred 9-point skills are Final Path and Twilight Dance. I tend to opt for Final Path because Plentiful Harvest and Grim Harvest require Foretell, which can only be selected once, and then the last slot is filled with a low-cost skill that applies Foretell, such as:
1. Aetherflow Acceleration
2. Swiftcast
3. Delivering Winds (if applicable)
4. etc.
- Bad Omen (Multiple enemies)
- Marking Card (Single target but applies Mark)

Pictos and Luminas
Similar to other crew members of Expedition 33, I ensure Sciel has an abundance of AP-generating Pictos and Luminas at her disposal. This allows her to continuously activate Foretell and utilize her supportive abilities. Additionally, I incorporate some that enhance damage for optimal results. Here are the Pictos and Luminas you should consider for Sciel:
