Claire Tabouret Evokes the Sensation of Touch in New Tapestry

As a seasoned art enthusiast with a keen eye for emerging talent and a soft spot for French artists, I must say that Claire Tabouret‘s latest collaboration with Avant Arte is nothing short of enchanting. Her work, particularly her “Fluff” series, has been a revelation, offering a refreshing departure from the figurative studies we are accustomed to seeing in contemporary art.

Five years after the creation of her “Swimmer” portrait, French artist Claire Tabouret is once again collaborating with London-based creative studio Avant Arte to introduce a new limited edition tapestry titled “Paysage d’Intérieur (printemps)”. This latest work continues Tabouret’s “Fluff” series, blending a lush, springtime landscape that showcases elements reminiscent of Post-Impressionism, from the works of Paul Cézanne and Vincent van Gogh.

Originally from Marseille and now residing in Los Angeles, Tabouret is renowned for her intimately crafted portraits of youth, often exploring themes connected to memory, nostalgia, vulnerability, and innocence. These themes are echoed in her evocative artwork, which subtly references the Mediterranean refugee crisis. Over the past ten years, Tabouret has experienced a rapid ascent within the art world, having displayed solo exhibitions worldwide and being represented by prestigious galleries such as Perrotin, Almine Rech, and Xavier Hufkens.

In 2022, Tabouret initiated her “Fluff” collection, moving away from her figurative explorations towards more abstract landscape pieces that stimulate a sensory conversation with the observer. The underlying theme in this series is the belief that materials can unlock buried recollections and provoke thought about humanity’s disconcerting need for solace, amidst the transient ebb and flow of our feelings.

Only 50 pieces are available, each meticulously crafted with 411,158 stitches and featuring 20 colors embroidered onto forest green velvet, all set within a custom, untreated oak wooden frame. This stunning tapestry, titled Paysage d’Intérieur (printemps), measures 21 x 14 x 2 inches and is authenticated by the artist with a certificate of authenticity. The price for this masterpiece is $4,319 USD (framed), but interested buyers must first enter a draw that concludes on December 11 at 9am ET.
