Claire Waight Keller Named UNIQLO's Creative Director

As a longtime admirer of fashion and its transformative power, I am absolutely thrilled by the appointment of Clare Waight Keller as UNIQLO’s creative director. Her illustrious career at the helm of iconic fashion houses like Chloé and Givenchy has proven her ability to create timeless yet innovative designs that resonate with a wide audience.

British fashion designer Clare Waight Keller teamed up with UNIQLO last September to introduce an affordable women’s wear line called UNIQLO : C, characterized by her key design principles of flow, motion, and femininity. The initial releases were met positively, and recently, she added menswear to the collection as well. With the success of this line, Waight Keller has been appointed as UNIQLO’s creative director. In this new role, she will oversee not only UNIQLO : C but also the mainline LifeWear offerings from UNIQLO.

You’ll observe that within some fundamental collections, fresh fashion trends and silhouettes will emerge, with new designs introduced roughly every other month to maintain a sense of novelty, according to Waight Keller as she discussed her plans for revitalizing the UNIQLO brand with British Vogue. In essence, her primary aim is to revitalize UNIQLO’s distinctive color scheme.

Designer Waight Keller, previously at Givenchy for three years and Chloé for six, intends to elevate UNIQLO’s women’s clothing line with innovative designs featuring fresh patterns and cuts on familiar shapes, catering to a younger demographic. In the men’s collection, she plans to incorporate “softer tailored jackets” and “more intriguing oversized silhouettes.” These details are according to the reporting outlet.

Apart from clothing, she also mentioned that her store offers new styles of footwear. “I’ve built up a great collection of flat shoes,” she shared. “These are ideal for everyday wear, especially when traveling. However, I still find the market lacks variety in this area. That’s a category we plan to grow [at Uniqlo] as well.”

Later this year, you’ll find Waight Keller’s UNIQLO creations in our stores. In the meantime, take another look at her UNIQLO:C designs right here.
