As a seasoned gamer with a knack for action movies, I can’t help but feel a surge of excitement upon hearing about the upcoming reboot of Cliffhanger, starring none other than the charming and talented Lily James and the suave Pierce Brosnan! The original film was a classic in its genre, and I have fond memories of watching Sylvester Stallone scale those treacherous cliffs back in the ’90s.
Lily James and Pierce Brosnan are ready to rock with their reboot of Cliffhanger.
Filming has started in Austria for a fresh adaptation of the 1993 film, which featured Sylvester Stallone. The upcoming movie, directed by Jaume Collet-Serra, is set to hit theaters and is produced by Rocket Science, along with Thank You Pictures and Supernix.
The refreshed version of the movie “Cliffhanger” revolves around mountaineer Ray Cooper (Brosnan), who operates a chalet with his daughter in the breathtaking Dolomites, located in Italy. One fateful day, they are abducted. In response, their older daughter Naomi (James), who is grappling with lingering trauma from a past climbing accident, must conquer her past demons to rescue her loved ones.
Last year, it was revealed that Stallone would be part of the remake, but he later withdrew from the production. Similarly, Ric Roman Waugh, who had earlier been declared the director, also stepped down from the project.
Completing the ensemble are Nell Tiger Free, Franz Rogowski, Shubham Saraf, Assaad Bouab, Suzy Bemba, and Bruno Gouery. This production is inspired by a narrative penned by Ana Lily Amirpour.
Filming our film on location in the Dolomites with high-end cameras was essential to convey the vastness and grandeur of the tale we’re spinning,” Collet-Serra stated. “We aim to offer viewers an unparalleled, heart-pounding, premium cinema adventure. Lily has truly excelled in her role, undergoing rigorous training and learning how to climb. Her devotion has enabled us to capture stunning visuals that wouldn’t have been possible otherwise, leaving the entire team amazed by her determination.
The production is handled by Lars Sylvest from Thank You Pictures, Joe Neurauter from Supernix, and Thorsten Schumacher from Rocket Science. Additionally, Neal Moritz and Toby Jaffe are also involved in the production process.
In May 1993, the movie “Cliffhanger,” produced by TriStar Pictures, made its way to theaters and went on to earn $255 million at the worldwide box office. Sylvester Stallone played the lead role under the direction of Renny Harlin as a mountain climber tasked with locating bags filled with stolen money in the Rockies.
James is associated with UTA and Tavistock Wood, while Brosnan is managed by CAA, Viewpoint, and Hansen Jacobson. Collet-Serra, on the other hand, is linked to LBI Entertainment and Yorn Levine.
