Clio Massey, Matt D’Arduini Tapped as Arista Records Co-Presidents

Arista Records has unveiled its fresh management team, with Clio Massey and Matt D’Arduini now serving as joint presidents of the company, according to a statement made by Sony Music Entertainment on Tuesday.

Two months ago, news broke about the retirement of music industry veteran David Massey from the company he re-launched in 2018 – the iconic record label. His daughter, Clio Massey, who was previously the general manager of Arista’s Work of Art Publishing and a VP of A&R at the label, is taking over his role. However, she’ll still manage Work of Art Publishing in her new position. D’Arduini, who has been with Arista since its re-launch, served as the executive vice president of A&R at the label previously. Together, they will report to Sony Music Group chairman Rob Stringer in their new roles.

Stringer expressed delight over a smooth change for Arista, which underwent a creative revival in 2018. In a statement, he stated that Clio and Matt, known for their dynamism and progressive thinking, are ideal candidates to further develop the artist development they’ve been part of during Arista’s initial phase renewal. Their abilities mesh well together, and as a team, they promise an exciting future for the label.

Established by renowned music industry figure Clive Davis in 1974, Arista Records initially gained recognition as the base for artists such as Whitney Houston, Aretha Franklin, and Barry Manilow. Unfortunately, the label ceased operations in 2011; however, David Massey was brought on board to rejuvenate it in 2018. The modern Arista experienced its most significant achievement with the band Måneskin, who achieved an international smash hit with their rendition of “Beggin’.” The label’s current roster comprises JP Saxe, Lola Brooke, and Damiano David from Måneskin.

Clio Massey expressed her excitement and gratitude for the opportunity in a statement. She’s eager to carry on collaborating with the talented artists and outstanding team at Arista, along with Matt. They are all enthusiastic about guiding and expanding their collective into the next stage of its journey.

According to D’Arduini, we are excited to build upon Arista’s achievements and growth from recent years, nurturing additional skillsets within our team. We are equally thankful for the guidance provided by Sony Music’s leadership, who share our vision and will aid us in further developing our creative foundation.
