'Clown in a Cornfield' Sets 2025 Release Date From RLJE and Shudder

As a film enthusiast with a penchant for horror and a soft spot for clowns (I mean, who doesn’t love a good laugh?), I can’t help but feel a mix of excitement and dread as I delve into the upcoming release of “Clown in a Cornfield.” The trailer promises to be a rollercoaster ride of terror, comedy, and suspense – quite the unique blend that has me intrigued.

Switch places with Art the Clown, a fresh, chilling menace is taking over the scene. An upcoming horror slasher from RLJE Films and Shudder promises to be among the most spine-tingling Halloween costumes of next year. With an official release date now announced, these two prominent horror distributors are preparing to introduce a new modern slasher figure – a spooky clown who goes by the name Frendo. Derived from author Adam Cesare’s Bram Stoker Award-winning book “Clown in a Cornfield,” this new movie is set to bring another terrifying clown into the genre, feeding our nightmares once more.

On May 9, 2025, the movies Clown in a Cornfield, directed by Eli Craig, will be released by RLJE Films and Shudder. The production of this horror film is being handled by Temple Hill, who were also behind the 2022 Paramount horror film Smile and its subsequent sequel. In the story, Aaron Abrams (from Hannibal) plays a father seeking a fresh start with his daughter Quinn, portrayed by Katie Douglas (Ginny & Georgia). However, their peaceful life in Kettle Springs is disrupted when they stumble upon a troubled community that was left in shambles after the Baypen Corn Syrup Factory went up in flames. As tensions rise among the locals and Frendo the clown emerges from the cornfield with a grin, it becomes clear that their new home won’t be as peaceful as they had hoped, as he carries out a series of gruesome acts of violence.

Craig, known for directing the popular cult horror-comedy “Tucker & Dale vs. Evil,” is preparing to create a potential three-part horror-thriller series. This is being done by adapting the first book of a successful young adult slasher trilogy published by HarperCollins, with the third installment having been released in August. The movie will star Carson MacCormac from “Shazam!”, Will Sasso from “The Three Stooges,” and Kevin Durand from “Abigail.

Another Day, Another Killer Clown

You can’t have a killer clown without some laughs, right? Well, the experienced comedy director certainly won’t leave out the silly nature of Frendo the not-so-friendly clown in his adaptation of the popular young adult novel. In a statement accompanying the announcement, Craig said:

I’m excited to collaborate with RLJE and Shudder for the release of our action-packed, hilarious yet chilling movie. The film explores a deeper theme about clashing viewpoints and beliefs that result in chaos, but this time, the horror elements take center stage. Yet, as is my style, I’ve woven in some comedic absurdity inspired by real-life experiences to balance out the thrills.

With popular figures like Pennywise from “It” and Art the Clown from “Terrifier” continuing to influence pop culture, it’s an exciting time for fans who appreciate chilling jesters. Clown aficionados, make sure your popcorn and flower-disguised water guns are at the ready – the arrival of “Clown in a Cornfield” is just around the corner this coming spring.
