‘Clueless’ Turns 30: Cher and Dionne Get Dolled Up As Barbies, Polly Pocket Playsets and Other Nostalgic Toys

Instead of merely celebrating, “Clueless” is taking its 30th anniversary celebration to a grand scale. The cherished duo from the iconic Paramount Pictures movie will be adorned in various collaborative toy projects with Mattel.

Based in El Segundo, a toy manufacturer has introduced limited edition Barbie dolls and American Girl outfits modeled after Cher Horowitz (portrayed by Alicia Silverstone) and Dionne Davenport (played by Stacey Dash), with Tai Frasier (Brittany Murphy) completing the set in a Polly Pocket playset and Fisher-Price Little People figurines. The Barbie dolls representing Cher and Dionne can be preordered prior to their fall release dates, September 15 at Target and October 1 on Amazon, while other fun collectibles and doll accessories are currently available for purchase online and in certain stores.

American Girl’s Collector Series outfits change 18-inch dolls (available individually) into complete fashionistas reminiscent of Cher and Dionne on their first day at school. Each set, priced at $80, comes with eight items such as iconic plaid jackets and pleated skirts, shoes, socks, accessories like a furry mini backpack for Cher or a rose and ribbon hat for Dionne, and even their own cellphones. The outfits are packaged exclusively and part of a limited production run of 7,000 units per look.

As a kid or even an adult gamer, I’ve got my hands on some cool Barbie Signature dolls, perfect for ages 6 and beyond! Cher rocks her signature look with her fluffy backpack, cell phone, and learner’s permit, while Dionne completes hers with a snazzy statement topper. These dolls are dressed in their iconic yellow and black-and-white plaid outfits that instantly remind you of the movie “Clueless.

Drawing inspiration from Jane Austen’s novel Emma, the movie Clueless was penned and helmed by Amy Heckerling, raking in a global box office revenue of $56.7 million after its release in July 1995. Besides Alicia Silverstone, Stacey Dash, and the late Brittany Murphy, the film featured stars like Paul Rudd, Elise Donovan, Donald Faison, Breckin Meyer, among others. Following the announcement of a movie-themed suite inspired by “Clueless” at L’Ermitage Beverly Hills, Mattel’s product launches ensue. This unique suite can be booked between July 12 and September 1 for $1,995 per night (with a two-night minimum). Additionally, a ‘Cher’mitage Experience’ is available at $995 per night.
