Coldplay’s Streams Surge After Viral Concert Kiss-Cam Moment

Approximately a week and a half following the widely discussed live-streamed kiss by Coldplay, their streaming numbers have increased by 25%.

During a performance by the band in Boston on July 16, the CEO of Astronomer, Andy Byron, and the company’s chief people officer, Kristin Cabot, unexpectedly appeared on the large screen. When they noticed they were being filmed for the kiss-cam segment, Bryon quickly moved out of sight, while Cabot spun around and covered her face with her hands.

In a video that’s gone viral, Coldplay’s Chris Martin seems to express concern, saying “Uh oh.” He speculates that either Byron and Cabot are involved romantically (i.e., having an affair), or they’re just extremely reserved (very shy). However, it is important to note that Byron and Cabot are actually married to other individuals.

As a gamer, I noticed a significant surge in Coldplay’s on-demand audio streams following their Boston concert. According to data from Luminate, as reported by Billboard, there was a whopping 25% increase! Prior to the concert, they had approximately 28.7 million streams, but in the five days after the incident, that number skyrocketed to an impressive 35.7 million.

After facing criticism, Byron stepped down from his position as CEO of Astronomer. On a Saturday, the organization issued an official statement, saying in part, “Astronomer stands by the principles and atmosphere that have defined us since our beginning. Our leaders are meant to embody these standards in behavior and responsibility, but unfortunately, those standards were not upheld recently.

Andy Byron stepped down, and the Board agreed to his resignation. Now, they’ll start looking for our new CEO, with Pete DeJoy continuing in his role as interim CEO and co-founder, overseeing product operations.
