Colin Farrell’s Netflix Movie ‘Ballad of a Small Player’ From Edward Berger Gets Fall Release, First Look

In these sneak peeks for the upcoming Netflix movie, I’m stepping out of my comfort zone as a gamer, taking some bold steps in “The Ballad of a Small Player.

On Wednesday, it was revealed that Edward Berger’s suspenseful film will premiere in some U.S. cinemas on October 15 and in selected theaters across the U.K. and Ireland on October 17. Following this, the movie will be available on Netflix starting October 29. The cast includes Fala Chen, Deanie Ip, Alex Jennings, and Tilda Swinton. This film is an adaptation of Lawrence Osborne’s 2014 novel with the same title.

It was announced on Wednesday that Edward Berger’s thriller movie will be screened in selected U.S. theaters on October 15, and in some U.K. and Irish theaters on October 17, before its Netflix debut on October 29. The film stars Fala Chen, Deanie Ip, Alex Jennings, and Tilda Swinton. Based on Lawrence Osborne’s 2014 novel of the same name, it is an adaptation that will be released soon.

Tale of the Little Gambler at Risk” focuses on an individual immersed in high-stakes gambling, juggling mounting debts and a shady history. In an attempt to evade attention in Macau, he encounters someone with similar traits.

“The Story of the Minimal Player in Deep Trouble” revolves around a gambler deeply entangled in high-stakes gambling and financial troubles, complicated by his questionable past. Desiring to stay inconspicuous in Macau, he crosses paths with someone who shares his essence.”

Both versions retain the original’s tone while offering alternative ways to express the storyline.

In this film project titled “The Ballad of a Small Player“, director Berger leads the production, working from a script penned by Rowan Joffe, which is adapted from Osborne’s book. Mike Goodridge and Matthew James Wilkinson also serve as producers for this venture, marking it as the first major feature under Berger’s agreement with Netflix.

Can’t wait to share the screen with Margot Robbie in director Kogonada’s “A Big Bold Beautiful Journey” which will grace the big screens in September!

In 2022, Netflix’s film “All Quiet on the Western Front,” directed by Berger, was nominated for nine Oscars, among them Best Picture, with Berger himself receiving a nomination for his work on the script. His latest production is the suspenseful movie “Conclave,” featuring Ralph Fiennes, Stanley Tucci, John Lithgow, and Isabella Rossellini, which was distributed by Focus Features. This film garnered eight Oscar nods, including a win for Best Adapted Screenplay.
