As a seasoned God of War enthusiast with countless hours spent wielding the Blades of Chaos and traversing the nine realms, I can wholeheartedly say that the quest for the Nidavellir Armour is an absolute game-changer!
In God of War Ragnarok, the ore from Nidavellir is a rare and unique commodity that’s exclusively sourced from one location and used for a single objective. Enhancing your character by creating new armor or improving your existing set plays a crucial role in your advancement. However, you may find that acquiring the Nidavellir Armor early in the game can provide you with an advantage.
How to start the Nidavellir Armour quest
In the course of the game, obtaining Nidavellir ore is an optional activity, marking one of the initial instances where you can divert from the primary quest. Early on, Kratos and Atreus journey to the realm of Svartalfheim, seeking assistance in locating Tyr.
As I seek assistance in my journey, you’ll encounter a decisive crossroads. To the left lies the path that continues our main narrative, while to the right, there’s an opportunity to address Mimir’s mining operations – specifically, his ore-rich rigs. It’s at these rigs where we can find the precious Nidavellir ore I need.
Getting to the mining rigs
In Mimir’s turbulent history, he constructed these mining operations for Odin to exploit the Dwarves’ riches. Mimir wishes these structures demolished, and our goal in this scenario is their destruction. We find three mining installations, and dismantling each one will yield some Nidavellir ore as a reward.
You can approach the three islands with smokestacks in any sequence you prefer. Here’s a simple guide: Navigate towards the smoke-stacked islands, reach the smokestacks, and eliminate them. Each island presents a unique combination of combat encounters, brain-teasing puzzles, and platforming challenges for you to overcome.
First up, we’ll tackle “Modvitnir’s Rig,” located at the most western end. It may seem simple, but finding the sweet spot to hit on the crane for movement is like solving a mini puzzle, enabling us to navigate over the gaps.
As I tread my path towards the colossal smokestack, I brace myself for the encounter with a formidable Bergsera Mother. This boss creature summons Wretches, but with determination in my heart and my gaming skills sharp, I’m ready to outwit her. If I can triumph over her, my next mission will be to bring down the smokestack itself.
At the heart of the region, you’ll find an island with docks on both its north and south sides. This is where you’ll typically find Sindri stationed. There’s a watchtower on the west side, and the mining rig is located on the east. For your convenience, I’ve given the mining rig a more familiar name: Radsvinn’s Rig. Your objective is to clear this area of hostiles, then destroy the rig once it’s safe to do so, allowing us to proceed further.
At last, I find myself standing before the imposing Althjof rig in the northern part of our territory. The traversal challenge it presents may not be overly complex, but the sheer number of steps involved makes it quite an intriguing puzzle. Climbing this rig is primarily a matter of manipulating the central lifts to move up and down, enabling me to cross numerous gaps along the way.
As you journey along, you’ll encounter some Draugr, but upon reaching the summit, you can demolish the structure to finish the task at hand.
Forging the Nidavellir Armour
Throughout your gaming experience, there’s a variety of armor and items you can create. However, some of these unique pieces need specific resources, such as Nidavellir ore. Since the Nidavellir armor is crafted using this ore, once you’ve completed the rigs, return to Sindri.
As a fan, I’m here to share some exciting news: You won’t have to farm or grind for more Nidavellir ore anymore! The exact amount you obtain by destroying the three rigs is sufficient to craft all the armor pieces. In other words, finishing this Favor will reward you with a brand-new set of potent armor!
Donning the complete armor set provides you with Stunning Recovery and Stunning Protection. The Stunning Recovery restores a portion of your health whenever you stun an adversary, while the Stunning Protection slows down the rate at which enemies lose their stun accumulation. Early on, the Nidavellir armor set is incredibly powerful and offers valuable advantages.
