Angélica Guerra, a seasoned executive who has worked with tech giant Apple, electronics corporation Sony, Colombian free-to-air network Caracol Televisión, and television network Telemundo, has now partnered with Dynamo, a renowned Colombian production company and services provider known for productions like “Narcos” and “One Hundred Years of Solitude”. In her new role, Guerra will serve as both partner and Chief Strategy Officer. Additionally, she will oversee two newly established business divisions called Franchises and Unscripted.
The new hire underscores Dynamo’s drive for global expansion. With this addition, the company stated that they are ready to speed up their global aspirations, create groundbreaking content across various categories, and strengthen their status as a pioneer in top-tier content creation.
Established in 2006, Dynamo, with locations in Bogota, Mexico City, New York, and Madrid, has thus far created and distributed 26 television series and 49 feature films for popular platforms such as Netflix, Amazon, and Starzplay. With over a quarter-century of expertise in the audiovisual sector, Guerra’s leadership of the newly created departments is expected to significantly expand the company’s presence across both scripted and unscripted productions, as stated by Dynamo.
Dynamo mentioned that in her current position, Guerra has been overseeing Apple TV+’s strategy for global Spanish-speaking audiences for a span of five years, serving as its head in Latin America.
In her role as Senior Vice President of Production for both Latin America and U.S. Hispanic markets at Sony Pictures Television, she managed a collection of original primetime series such as “Metastasis”, the Spanish-language version of “Breaking Bad”, and local adaptations of unscripted formats like “Shark Tank”, “X Factor”, and “Got Talent”. Prior to this, during her time at Caracol, she contributed significantly to the company’s growth in international markets.
Andrés Calderón, CEO of Dynamo, commented that Angélica’s joining as a partner signifies a significant step forward in our growth plan, pushing us into fresh business sectors that match the ever-changing requirements of our industry. He expressed confidence that her proven leadership, extensive experience, and strategic acumen will play a crucial role in driving Dynamo’s global expansion.
Warria is excited about her upcoming task. “Dynamo has created an exceptional tradition of daring, top-tier storytelling that echoes around the world. I’m overjoyed to be part of this gifted team at such a crucial juncture, as we broaden our horizons and explore creative limits,” she expressed. “The establishment of the Unscripted department will enable us to seek, create, and adapt the most groundbreaking formats for Latin American viewers and beyond. Simultaneously, our Franchises division will cultivate fiction projects with the potential to expand over numerous seasons and platforms.
