As a sneaker enthusiast with a penchant for the unconventional and a soft spot for timeless designs, I’ve been eagerly awaiting the release of the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME x New Balance 860v2. Having grown up in the era of the original release, I can appreciate the evolution this iconic silhouette has undergone over the years.
After launching the reissued archival sneaker earlier in the year, New Balance from Boston is still releasing updated versions and collaborations of their 860v2 model as its retro running shoes gain popularity among young audiences. The COMME des GARÇONS HOMME collaboration with New Balance on the 860v2 design streamlines the performance shape, using less material to create a stylish, contemporary aesthetic.
In contrast to the earlier version of the 2011 shoe that featured bold high-contrast accents and large, see-through mesh sections, the COMME des GARÇONS 860v2 goes for a more subtle approach with toned-down color variations and finely woven mesh underlays, creating a sleek, seamless appearance. The shoe also includes embossed synthetic panels and suede details, providing additional depth and texture to its design.
The team is going to present two color schemes: one entirely black and another signature gray. The black version will have white midsole and outsole, with the black overlays popping against the dark underlays. In contrast, the gray version will have darker accents on the overlays and eyestays that give it depth. Both pairs will have silver lines along the heel counters, where a red “NB” emblem can be found beneath the heel tab. The COMME des GARÇONS branding is prominent, appearing not only at the top of the tongue but also within the insoles, alongside the New Balance logo.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’m super hyped to share that the COMME des GARÇONS HOMME x New Balance 860v2 drops on October 18! You can grab ’em exclusively at certain COMME des GARÇONS stores and top stockists like Dover Street Market. So, mark your calendars and get ready to cop this epic collab!
