Communite review - "Building up friendships"

  • Build a world, together!
  • Attract little creatures that you can bop
  • Take on quests to build specific habitats

As a seasoned gamer with a heart full of nostalgia for the days of Minecraft and a soul longing for a touch of kindness in the gaming world, I find myself utterly smitten by Communite. The memories of my first home being destroyed in a live server have left an indelible mark on me, but Communite seems to be a breath of fresh air, a sanctuary where collaboration and creativity reign supreme without the fear of destruction.

In many open-world games, players often find joy in demolishing structures constructed by others. However, I still recall the initial time I crafted a home within a live Minecraft server, only for it to be destroyed. The experience left me heartbroken. Community, on the other hand, is a unique platform that encourages building and fostering beautiful environments, all while promoting kindness and collaboration.

The entire map consists of small, square pieces, which are essentially game tiles. You can put these tiles in specific locations, often as part of a quest. These quests are given by various woodland animals and creatures that require your assistance. They decide the type of environment they want you to construct using the tiles you’ve already unlocked. Once constructed, you must expand the surrounding area to fill up a Habitat Progress meter.

Gameplay

Placing tiles costs flowers, which you gain over time or by tapping on the little flower creatures that are often walking around the world. You can also gain some when you level up. Without flowers, you aren’t able to build anything! As you progress through Communite, you will unlock more of them, allowing you to build more complex habitats. Some of them are a little expensive when it comes to placement and other tiles need more people to help you to build them. Those people need to join the tile and spend their flowers on it. Once enough people have joined, the tile is complete.

In this game, the tasks assigned by the creatures aren’t strictly sequential. You have the flexibility to choose a different task based on different friends, which in turn boosts your relationship with each character individually. This progress can open up unique tiles for you to utilize! It’s enjoyable to observe your friendships grow and reach significant levels, revealing many new possibilities.

Let’s collaborate on crafting a stunning virtual universe where nothing can truly be destroyed! It’s been entertaining to observe the diverse approaches as some strategically design intricate habitats while others, like myself, seem more spontaneous in completing their assigned tasks. Occasionally, quests are situated in regions that are nearly complete. In such cases, it becomes necessary to adapt and work around existing structures to accomplish the mission at hand.

Mini games

There are little mini-games, in the form of taking care of an area, that become a block sliding puzzle, which can also give you a big burst of flowers while allowing you to interact and appreciate someone else’s habitat! The entire game feels very kind and peaceful as you play.
Communite has built a world that feels fun to help each other. Finding other people’s tiles that need a bit of a boost becomes almost a game, looking to finish off the design of another person. I, personally, am looking forward to seeing where this world grows and how chaotic it all will be when it’s more filled in!
