Costao: Real-life hero Costao Fernandes had emotional reaction after watching Nawazuddin Siddiqui-led Zee5 movie

The upcoming thriller “Costao” starring Nawazuddin Siddiqui is preparing for its release, with its trailer hinting at a gripping tale of an underdog battling a powerful force. In a recent conversation, director Sejal Shah revealed that the film has been screened to its real-life inspiration, Customs officer Costao Fernandes. According to her, his emotional reaction was deep and moving; he was clearly moved by what he witnessed, even shedding tears in response.

According to a chat with Variety, the movie’s director, Sejal Shah, mentioned that the actual Costao Fernandes had seen the film and reacted favorably.

Shah shared that Fernandes was profoundly affected by the movie, reaching a level of emotion that brought him close to tears. Interestingly, Shah confessed he felt unusually anxious during Fernandes’ viewing, more so than others, which made Fernandes’ emotional response even more noteworthy.

Shah conveyed her expectation that viewers would resonate with various motifs from the movie. She emphasized that the main message to grasp was understanding that courage isn’t effortless.

She characterized the narrative as a tale about anyone who champions their convictions, mentioning further that it delves into topics related to redemption and forgiveness.

1990s-set movie “Costao” is based on the true tale of a fearless customs official, Costao Fernandes, who confronted one of Goa’s powerful smuggling syndicates head-on. The narrative follows his daring solo endeavor that ultimately led to dismantling one of India’s largest gold trafficking operations.

In his work, Shah mentioned that adapting a real-life story like Costao Fernandes’ presented unique difficulties.

During that very interview, I gleefully shared how effortlessly I could bring those vivid experiences to life, given they were all true events.

Yet, she noted that during collaborative work with Bhavesh on the dramatization, they prioritized accuracy to the actual events of Fernandes’ life. They avoided significant deviations from the truth.

The movie features Priya Bapat, Kishore Kumar G, Gagan Dev Riar, and Hussain Dalal among its cast. This crime-thriller is helmed by director Sejal Shah and boasts a production team consisting of Vinod Bhanushali, Kamlesh Bhanushali, Bhavesh Mandalia, Sejal Shah, Shyam Sunder, and Faizuddin Siddiqui.
