‘Coyote vs. Acme’ Debuts First Footage as Will Forte Reflects on Salvaged Film: “I Had Given Up Hope”

Following a rough journey, the team behind “Coyote vs. Acme” made their way to San Diego Comic-Con to celebrate the upcoming cinema release and reveal the film’s scheduled premiere date.

Will Forte expressed his astonishment to the crowd about the film’s release from Ketchup Entertainment following its drop by Warner Bros. Coyote to catch the Road Runner, accompanied by Johnny Cash’s rendition of Nine Inch Nails’ song “Hurt.” Later on, during these episodes, Coyote encounters an ad for lawyer Kevin Avery, portrayed by Forte, on television.

In the recording, the character humorously exclaims, “Did you ever try to open your parachute and all that came out was silverware?” To clarify, it wasn’t their mistake. This statement elicited a great deal of laughter and applause from the enthusiastic audience.

On August 28, 2026, it was officially announced that the film titled “Coyote vs. Acme” will be released in cinemas. Interestingly, during the panel discussion involving cast members Eric Bauza and Martha Kelly, director Dave Green, and moderator Paul Scheer, no reference to Warner Bros. was made while discussing the project’s arduous journey.

Forte commended Wile as a “determined character” yet emphasized, “However, the true champions of this film are each one of you in the audience. In many ways, you’ve mirrored Wile E. Coyote, battling against a large corporation, and your unyielding perseverance is what has enabled this movie to be distributed worldwide.

Afterward, the team watched another six minutes of video featuring John Cena, who was acting as co-star and defending Acme in a courtroom scenario. In this clip, he declares to the jury, “I will demonstrate that this man, Wile E Coyote, is reckless.” A mishap with the prosecution’s evidence results in an explosion within the courtroom during this sequence, causing it to ignite fiercely.

Later on, Forte’s character receives a cryptic phone call from someone who seems eerily like Bugs Bunny. “I might just have something to assist you regarding Acme,” the unidentified acquaintance remarks. “I know someone with details.

The panel ended with the team debuting the movie’s action-packed teaser trailer.

By late 2023, The Hollywood Reporter announced that Warner Bros. intended to cancel the film due to a $115 million loss. A storm of public outrage on social media managed to preserve the production, and it was eventually picked up by Ketchup Entertainment for distribution in March.

The movie focuses on lawyer Kevin Avery (played by Forte) taking up the case of Wile E. Coyote, who is suing the Acme Corporation due to his repeated unsuccessful attempts to capture the Road Runner.

Green served as the director for a movie, originating from a script by Samy Burch. Burch, James Gunn, and Jeremy Slater are all given credit for the storyline. The movie showcases characters from Looney Tunes and is inspired by Ian Frazier’s 1990 article in The New Yorker, titled “Coyote v. Acme.

Forte expressed surprise at the unexpected success of the film’s distribution earlier this year, saying ‘It appeared so unlikely that it seemed to emerge out of nowhere, and I couldn’t be more delighted!’ He added, ‘I’m eager for everyone to watch this movie. I’ll do whatever it takes to promote it. If you need me to climb Mount Everest for promotion, I’m ready!’
