As a long-time fan of the DC Universe and a devotee of Mike Flanagan’s terrifyingly brilliant works, I must admit that my anticipation for the upcoming Clayface movie has reached an all-time high after watching the latest episode of Creature Commandos, “The Iron Pot.
Warning: SPOILERS for the Creature Commandos episode “The Iron Pot” are ahead!
Previously, it became known that Mike Flanagan is composing a script for a Clayface film within the DC Universe collection, as confirmed by DC Studios co-head James Gunn, who praised the script as exceptional. Nevertheless, prior to this revelation, there were already indications that Clayface would join the DCU, given that Alan Tudyk had been voicing the versatile Batman adversary in “Creature Commandos,” similar to his roles in “Harley Quinn” and “Kite-Man: Hell Yeah!”. The character made an appearance in “The Iron Pot”, now accessible with a Max subscription, and the plot of this episode has only heightened my curiosity regarding Clayface’s role in his forthcoming DC film.
What Happened With Clayface In The New Creature Commandos Episode
Previously on “Chasing Squirrels,” Amanda Waller enlisted Aisla MacPherson, a renowned expert on Themyscira, to verify Circe’s ability to foresee the future. Upon confirmation that her powers were genuine, Waller assigned The Bride, Nina Mazursky, Doctor Phosphorous, and Weasel a mission to return to Pokolistan and assassinate Princess Ilana Rostovic. However, this week’s episode uncovered a startling revelation: the person presented as MacPherson was actually Clayface in disguise.
Rick Flag Senior and Eric Frankenstein discovered the reason for their break-in at MacPherson’s residence when they noticed her peculiar behavior during a university lecture, specifically her emphasis on Themyscira being populated with “lesbians.” Upon entering the house, Flag found MacPherson’s true body and informed Rostovic about Task Force M targeting the killer. Shortly after, Clayface returned home and assaulted Flag and Frankenstein as they attempted to quietly leave the premises. In the end, it was Frankenstein who managed to subdue Clayface with electrical wires, although Flag sustained severe injuries during the skirmish. Luckily, his recovery is assured since he’s set to appear in James Gunn’s upcoming Superman film and Peacemaker Season 2.
How Will The Clayface Movie Build Upon This Appearance?
It’s apparent that Clayface is tied to Circe’s plans somehow, as I can’t fathom any motive for him pretending to be Aisla MacPherson otherwise. We’ll likely get more insight into his role in the upcoming episode, “Priyatel Skelet,” but what intrigues me most is how the Clayface film will develop the character, given his previous appearance in Creature Commandos.
Previously, Alan Tudyk labeled DCU’s Clayface as a “murderer” and “psychopath,” aligning perfectly with his portrayal in “The Iron Pot.” However, Deadline recently announced that the upcoming Clayface film, scheduled for September 11, 2026, will not portray the character as a villain. This intriguing contradiction has sparked my curiosity about how these differing depictions within the same continuity will harmonize, adding to my list of questions regarding the Clayface movie.
To provide a balanced perspective, we must acknowledge that our understanding of DCU’s Clayface is limited due to his single appearance so far. Apart from being comfortable with killing, he seems to have an interest in lesbians on a women-only island and enjoys playing Xbox. It’s also important to note that when James Gunn was writing Creature Commandos, there were no plans for a Clayface movie yet. I hope Flanagan manages to portray Clayface in a compassionate way while still addressing his actions in Creature Commandos. This could be a challenging task, but I believe he has the skills to pull it off successfully.
Keep an eye on TopMob for further updates about Clayface and additional coverage of Creature Commandos. Excitingly, Creature Commandos is coming back for a second season alongside other upcoming DC television series, if you’ve been loving it so far!
