‘Creature Commandos’ Renewed for Second Season at Max

As a devoted fan of DC Universe and its captivating narrative, I could hardly contain my excitement when I learned that “Creature Commandos” has been renewed for a second season! This series, crafted under the watchful eye of James Gunn, is not only a fresh addition to the DC Universe but also serves as the pioneer of this new continuity.

The first building block of the new on-screen DC Universe will get a second season.

Max has given the green light for another season of their adult animated show “Creature Commandos”. This decision was made during the run of its initial seven-episode season, which debuted on December 5th.

The series produced by DC Studios co-chairman James Gunn marks the beginning of the DC Universe continuity. This storyline will expand with the release of “Superman” in movie theaters next summer. On the other hand, HBO’s successful series “The Penguin” falls under the “Elseworlds” label at DC Studios – a category for shows and films that don’t follow the main narrative. The production of this show is a collaboration between DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, with Dean Lorey (“Harley Quinn”) serving as the showrunner.

We’re excited to join forces with Max once more for another season of the chaotic fun that is Creature Commandos, as shared in a statement by Gunn and DC Studios co-chairman Peter Safran. From the spectacular success of Peacemaker to the impressive run of The Penguin and the groundbreaking debut of Creature Commandos, Max has consistently surpassed industry expectations and gone beyond our wildest dreams. A big thank you to Casey, Sarah, Pia, Sono, and their entire team for their outstanding support of DC Studios. We’re proud to have Max as part of our family.

Amy Gravitt, vice president of HBO and Max comedy programming, stated, “James Gunn uniquely created this group of eccentric monster characters who manage to touch your heart and make you fervently cheer for them. We’re thrilled to continue their adventures with James, Dean Lorey, Peter Safran, and our wonderful partners at DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation.

As a gamer, I’d put it like this: “I find myself leading an elite squad of imprisoned monstrosities, handpicked for tasks that are too risky for humans. The stellar voice cast for season one includes Steve Agee, Maria Bakalova, Anya Chalotra, Zoe Chao, Frank Grillo, Sean Gunn, David Harbour, Alan Tudyk, Indira Varma, and Viola Davis, who returns as Amanda Waller from both The Suicide Squad and Peacemaker.

As a gamer, I’m thrilled to be part of this incredible journey! Kudos to James’ brilliant mind and the extraordinary artistry of our team for creating this fresh band of heroes that DC fans have grown fond of. We can’t wait to keep the excitement going with our pals at Max. If you’re craving more monstrous adventures, buckle up because we’ve got more monsters on the way!

Gunn penned all seven episodes of the series, Creature Commandos, and remained involved in its production, despite assuming his position at DC Studios and directing Superman. As he shared with The Hollywood Reporter before the show’s premiere, working on Creature Commandos was always a special treat for him, like celebrating Christmas. Taking up a project as vast as Superman, however, is quite challenging and demanding. Yet, the team behind Creature Commandos was producing exceptional work, and the cast was outstanding.

Gunn, Safran, Lorey, along with WB Animation’s president Sam Register, serve as the executive producers for the show titled “Creature Commandos“. Rick Morales takes on the role of the supervising producer.
