As a die-hard fan of crime dramas and someone who has spent countless hours watching the lives of detectives unfold on screen, I can confidently say that Cross is the most captivating series I have come across in recent times. The first season, with its intricate plotlines and gripping storytelling, left me on the edge of my seat, eager for more.

On November 14, 2024, the crime series “Cross” will make its first appearance on Prime Video, having consistently been one of their most-watched shows. Inspired by the fictional D.C. detective from James Patterson’s 30 “Alex Cross” novels, the eight-episode series has earned acclaim for Aldis Hodge’s captivating portrayal of the title character. The show’s critical reception and massive viewership have prompted Amazon to renew it for a second season.

It’s essential to talk about Cross Season 2 only after wrapping up the events that transpired in Season 1. The main thread of Cross’ investigation revolves around discovering who killed his wife, Maria. On a professional front, his duties involve investigating the murder of a political activist. The climactic events of Season 1 intertwine to establish the plot for Season 2. Here’s a summary of what happens at the end of Cross Season 1: [Details about Maria’s murderer are revealed].

This Season on Cross…

The show, titled “Cross,” is an intriguing American TV series developed by Ben Watkins for Amazon Prime Video. While it shares roots with James Patterson’s popular character, the narrative follows a fresh crime investigation in each episode. Aldis Hodge brilliantly embodies Dr. Alex Cross, a relentless forensic psychologist who delves deep into killers’ minds to decipher their intentions, predict their actions, and thwart future criminal activities.

Devastated by the gruesome killing of his wife, Maria (Chaunteé Schuler Irving), Cross embarks on an investigation into the murder of Emir Goodspeed (Donovan Brown), a prominent activist for Black Lives Matter and police defunding in Washington, D.C. Seeking solace through therapy to cope with his loss, Cross finds it challenging to maintain focus on his work as grief takes its toll. Relying heavily on his closest friend and partner in detective work, John Sampson (Isaiah Mustafa), his grandmother Regina (Juanita Jennings), and their unwavering support, Cross struggles to balance his emotions while nurturing his two young children, Damon (Caleb Elijah) and Janelle (Melody Hurd).

As Cross investigates Emir’s murder, he encounters several potential suspects in D.C., including wealthy D.C. lobbyist Ed Ramsey (Ryan Eggold), Ed’s romantic interest Shannon Witmer (Eloise Mumford), former police detective Bobby Trey (Johnny Ray Gill), and more. With Maria and Emir’s murders to solve, Cross turns to FBI Agent Kayla Craig (Alona Tal), Chief Anderson (Jennifer Wigmore), and criminal journalist Tania Hightower (Siobhan Murphy) as the season finale comes into sharper focus.

Cross Catches the Killer

In episode 4 titled “Masks,” detective Cross starts unraveling the mystery as he follows Ed. Suspicion arises when Cross believes Ed could be a serial killer planning to target Shannon Witmer, whom he met on a dating app and manipulated. What makes this even more chilling is that Cross stumbles upon a scrapbook in Ed’s residence, filled with admiration for notorious serial killers and sketches of deaths mirroring those happening in Washington D.C. The revelation leaves Cross shocked as he learns the killer has a goal of 12 victims, with 11 already claimed and Shannon being the imminent 12th victim.

In the end, Cross manages to stop Ed from murdering Shannon, thereby thwarting Ed’s twisted plan to take 12 lives. This causes Ed to shift his deadly focus towards Cross instead. As Ed is about to kill Shannon, Cross miraculously arrives in time and saves her life.

But It Doesn’t End There

In a pivotal moment of recollection, it’s disclosed that Cross has become the target for retribution by a vengeful inmate. Previously, Cross had apprehended a woman named Deirdre Nolan, who was convicted and given a life sentence for killing an innocent person. Cross played a crucial role in testifying against Nolan, stating she possessed a “psychopathic personality” and posed a threat to society. While confined, Nolan endured such severe abuse that she tragically took her own life.

In the investigation, Cross uncovers that Nolan was involved with a man named Peter Lenox (Ryan Allen), and someone known as “Street Mother.” Subsequent probing reveals that “Street Mother” is none other than Miss Nancy (Karen Robinson), Damon Cross’ piano teacher. It appears that both Peter Lenox and Miss Nancy, under the pretext of avenging Nolan’s death, which they believe was caused by Alex Cross, have been targeting the Cross family with lethal intentions. In simpler terms, Peter (who had a relationship with Nolan) and Nancy (Nolan and Lenox’s close confidante) have been lurking around the Cross family with malicious plans in mind, with Miss Nancy even posing as Damon’s piano teacher to infiltrate their home.

In a hidden cabin, Miss Nancy escorts Cross’ kids, led by Peter who later shoots John. The captors compel Cross to slay his own children, but John intervenes and beats Peter. Meanwhile, Regina heals from Peter’s assault in Cross’ residence. As the legal matters conclude, Peter gets arrested for murdering Maria, while Miss Nancy tragically sets her cabin ablaze before apprehension. In the end, Cross manages to save his children and lover Elle (Samantha Walkes). However, the unexpected revelation about Bobby Trey, an associate of Ed, paves the way for Season 2’s intrigue.

Cross’ Season 1 Ending Sets Up Season 2

In the gripping 2024 TV crime thriller, it’s unveiled that ex-police officer Bobby Trey played a crucial role as Ed Ramsey’s main associate, assisting the notorious serial killer count up to 11 victims, for which he was paid a substantial $1 million. After Ed’s capture, FBI Agent Kayla Craig endeavors to persuade Bobby to admit his involvement in the murders, seeking closure for the families of the victims.

In Season 2, Bobby, who was infamously portrayed as an overzealous fan of America’s Most Wanted, strikes a deal to clear his name by implicating Ed in six murder cases in Washington D.C. This agreement grants Bobby complete criminal immunity and cuts his sentence down to two years. Kayla consents to compensate Bobby for pretending to be the Fanboy Killer. As the story unfolds, Cross is left grappling with Bobby and Kayla’s hidden agendas, which involve unmasking the Washington D.C. power brokers connected to Ed and potentially bringing them to justice.

According to the showrunner Ben Watkins, as reported by Collider, Season 2 of the series “Cross” has already been filmed. Watkins offers a sneak peek hinting at what’s to come in the upcoming season.

“Season 2 is actually filmed. I’m gonna go ahead and give you a spoiler because, f*** it. We started the [writers’] room back in November, we started filming in April, we finished production in September, and we’re actually in post-production on Season 2. Each season is a book for me. They’re all based on new mysteries. Season 1 is
Hero Complex,
and Season 2 is called
Bitter Fruit
.”

Despite Watkins hinting at fresh enigmas in “Bitter Fruit” for Season 2, viewers will likely see characters Bobby Trey and Kayla Craig intertwined with Cross when the show resumes its run.

Cross is available to stream on Amazon Prime Video.
