The Dabba Cartel web series, featuring Shabana Azmi, Jyotika, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, and Nimisha Sajayan, is one of the upcoming shows eagerly awaited by viewers. Shortly after the teaser was unveiled, the team held a special event to release the show’s trailer. During this gathering, which was attended by the entire cast and crew, Shabana Azmi confessed that she wished to exclude two of her co-stars from the series, one of whom is Jyotika.
At the launch of Dabba Cartel’s trailer on February 18, during questions about the show’s production, particularly the casting of a large star-studded cast, director Hitesh Bhatia was queried. In response to this inquiry, Shabana Azmi made a surprising revelation, disclosing that she had attempted to exclude two actresses from the series, including Jyotika.
She admitted, “I feel compelled to share a secret about the show. There were two actresses whose roles I wished to change. One of them was Jyotika. This is something she isn’t aware of, but I had wanted her replaced and suggested casting someone else instead. In fact, I expressed this desire to Farhan Akhtar and Shibani Akhtar by saying we should consider casting another actress.
After this honest admission, Jyotika chuckled and responded, “Fortunately, they didn’t yield to my suggestion. Shibani said ‘feel free to make your decisions, but we won’t alter the cast.’ I’m thankful they ignored me, as it would have denied me the opportunity to collaborate with her.” When inquired about the missing girl, Shabana clarified that she wasn’t present at the gathering.
The upcoming series, Dabba Cartel, centers on an everyday lunchbox delivery service that morphs into a dangerous world of crime, deceit, and survival. This thrilling story revolves around five ordinary women from the middle class who unwittingly get entangled in a major criminal operation.
The Dabba Cartel boasts an impressive ensemble of actors such as Shabana Azmi, Gajraj Rao, Jyotika, Nimisha Sajayan, Shalini Pandey, Anjali Anand, Sai Tamhankar, Jisshu Sengupta, Lillete Dubey, and Bhupendra Singh Jadawat.
Under the guidance of director Hitesh Bhatia, the series Dabba Cartel has been brought to life by creators Shibani Akhtar, Vishnu Menon, Gaurav Kapur, and Akanksha Seda. It’s set to premiere on Netflix towards the end of February 2025, specifically on the 28th.
