Dan Harmon Reveals Shocking Truth About the Future of Rick and Morty!

The eighth season of “Rick and Morty” has arrived, promising more episodes that we can look forward to in the future. Previously, it was suggested that the Adult Swim series might come to an end, but creators Dan Harmon and showrunner Scott Marder have confirmed to TopMob that there’s no definitive conclusion planned (at this point) for the sci-fi animated series. They offered a compelling explanation for why the show continues.

I recently spoke with Harmon and Marder prior to the commencement of the latest season, discussing the possibility of an “endgame” for Rick and Morty. Although there was a potential conclusion when the series had a more serialized structure, its tremendous success has granted them the opportunity to produce additional seasons endlessly.

In fact, at this point, Dan Harmon doesn’t see any reason to stop the train:

It seems as though our success is no longer entirely within our control. Instead of striving to be number one, I believe it would be met with indifference, akin to saying, “Let’s take a bow and finish at the top!” being responded to with, “On top of what? You’re already background noise, a constant presence.” For us, playing the game correctly means attempting to set new records and finding joy in every single episode. Since I can’t imagine which award we would receive from which organization for ending when we’ve achieved so much and been through so much, we might as well do so in season 13 [we’re done].

He’s got a valid argument, as shows like Seinfeld and Young Sheldon continued to excel even at the height of their popularity, whereas Rick and Morty stands apart in a unique category of television (producing significantly fewer episodes per season). It appears that the team behind it is dedicated to creating a wealth of episodes for us to binge on with a Max subscription, ensuring there’s plenty of content for our grandchildren to enjoy long into the future.

I suppose all this to say, the meme of “100 years of Rick and Morty” is a real thing.

As a fan like me, I’m excited to share that Adult Swim shows, including Rick and Morty, are now available for streaming on Max! For just $9.99 a month, you can enjoy the With Ads plan. And if you’re looking for more flexibility in your viewing experience, there are three tiers to choose from, all leading up to a soon-to-be HBO Max subscription. If you find yourself wanting to rewatch these series, consider prepaying for a year and save up to 20%! Check out the deal here.

To clarify, there’s an exception to that commitment: Dan Harmon has stated that if the earliest seasons of “Rick and Morty” consistently outshine newer episodes significantly, he wouldn’t object to ending the animated show.

If it’s a matter of fatigue or if the show isn’t living up to our expectations, we might decide to call it quits and say, “It seems the show isn’t working anymore, let’s bring it to an end.” This would be a different kind of appreciation, like “Well done for honesty and self-awareness,” but I believe that in today’s world, where shows that have a clear ending and conclude beautifully are celebrated, these shows often run for just a few seasons, typically 6 to 2.

When Dan Harmon made his statement, I couldn’t help but think of the finale for ‘Stranger Things’. Frankly, ‘Rick and Morty’ doesn’t need to strive for that kind of conclusion. It’s perfectly fine for it to be another animated series without a predetermined end point. Or, like ‘The Simpsons’, it could deliver an arbitrary ending for those craving one, then carry on as if nothing had changed after that.

Scott Marder shared his thoughts extensively, hinting that we might continue seeing Interdimensional Cable sequels for quite a while. Similar to Harmon, the showrunner of Rick and Morty indicated that there have been no discussions about ending the series, despite them finishing up work on Season 10.

To put it another way, we haven’t discussed an ending yet, but if there were signs of creative exhaustion and it felt like we were hitting a brick wall, there might be some talk about it. However, I must confess that the show is flowing just as smoothly and enjoyably through Season 10 as it did in its early days, and I can’t see an end coming up anytime soon. This is incredibly exciting news! It’s really thrilling!

As an ardent supporter who’s been privileged to catch a glimpse of several Season 8 episodes ahead of time, let me affirm – Rick and Morty is running at full steam in this new chapter. It’s every bit as enthralling now as it was when I first dived into the series. The enigma surrounding that entire assembly of Ricks hinted in the trailer has particularly piqued my interest, but I won’t divulge any secrets about how it unfolds for those yet to unravel the mystery themselves.

As a die-hard fan of animated series, I can’t contain my excitement! Gear up, fellow fans, as “Rick and Morty” Season 8 takes flight on Adult Swim every Sunday at 11:00 p.m. ET. Make sure your DVRs are ready to capture the madness, because this season promises to be one for the record books – it could very well rank among the best we’ve ever seen!
