Danai Gurira Joins Michael B. Jordan in ‘The Thomas Crown Affair’ Remake (Exclusive)

Danai Gurira is teaming up once more with her co-star Michael B. Jordan for the Jordan-led modern adaptation of “The Thomas Crown Affair“. This time around, Jordan isn’t just starring but also directing and producing the romantic heist thriller under his Outlier Society banner. Elizabeth Raposo from the same company, as well as veteran producer Charles Roven of Atlas Entertainment, are also involved in production.

Filming starts on Monday in London, with Academy Award winner Kenneth Branagh and Academy Award nominee Lily Gladstone joining the cast, along with Taylor Russell. The original “Thomas Crown” was released by United Artists in 1968, starring Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway. This new version will reportedly be set in Europe, maintaining the art theft theme.

In this adaptation, Jordan plays a billionaire with an affinity for art, while Russell is a private detective. The specific roles of Gladstone and Branagh are being kept secret. Gurira will appear as Jordan’s confidante in the film.

Amazon MGM has scheduled a theatrical release on March 5, 2027, for this romantic thriller. Drew Pearce penned the latest script after previous drafts by Wes Tooke and Justin Britt-Gibson, which were based on the original film. Patrick McCormick and Toberoff Productions’ Marc Toberoff will also serve as producers. Alan Trustman, who wrote for the original 1968 film, is an executive producer.

Outside of her Marvel roles, Gurira gained popularity for portraying the katana-wielding zombie killer Michonne on AMC’s “The Walking Dead” and more recently co-created, executive produced, and starred in the spinoff series, “The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live”. Following this, she will appear in Apple TV+’s upcoming film “Matchbox”, based on Mattel’s famous toy vehicle line, alongside John Cena.

Gurira is repped by UTA, Suskin/Karshan Management, and Jackoway Austen.
