As a long-time fan of Dancing with the Stars, I must admit that this recent news about Artem Chigvintsev‘s arrest has left me utterly bewildered and saddened. Over the years, we’ve witnessed his graceful moves on the dancefloor and celebrated his victories, but now, it seems that life off the dance floor might be a bit more complex than we imagined.
On Thursday morning, professional dancer Artem Chigvintsev from “Dancing with the Stars” was taken into custody for alleged domestic violence.
Based on online jail records, it appears that the dance professional was taken into custody at Napa County jail around 10:40 am Pacific Time. The reason for this arrest seems to be related to California penal code 273.5(a), which means that anyone who intentionally causes bodily harm resulting in a serious injury to their current or former partner, roommate, fiancé/fiancée, or co-parent is considered to have committed a felony under this law.
Later on Thursday, Chigvintsev was freed in the afternoon following the payment of a $25,000 bond. The authorities have kept silent regarding the reasons for his detention and any information concerning the supposed victim.
Chigvintsev and Nikki Garcia, who is a former WWE star, have been married since 2022 and share a son. They started dating after being paired on ABC’s dance competition series in 2019. Just three days before his arrest, they both posted on their individual social media accounts to celebrate their anniversary.
It was not immediately clear if Garcia was involved in the incident.
The accomplished dancer has taken part in twelve different seasons of ‘Dancing with the Stars’, including the most recent one where he finished fourth alongside Charity Lawson. In the 29th season, which took place in 2020, he and Kaitlyn Bristowe emerged as winners. Prior to his stint on ‘Dancing with the Stars’, Chigvintsev was a well-known participant on ‘Strictly Come Dancing’, the British equivalent of this popular dance competition series.
According to additional information, Chigvintsev wasn’t scheduled to appear in season 33 of “Dancing with the Stars,” which is slated to start airing on September 17th.
The representatives for Chigvintsev, Garcia, and the Napa County Sheriff’s Office have yet to provide a response to THR’s request for a statement.
