As a long-time fan who’s watched more seasons of Dancing with the Stars than I care to admit, I must say that this Season 33 finale promises to be a thrilling spectacle! With Witney Carson and her partner Danny Amendola competing for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy, I find myself on the edge of my seat every week.
In the penultimate episode of Season 33, five couples will battle it out for the Len Goodman Mirrorball Trophy within the 2024 television lineup, following a surprising revelation. Witney Carson, alongside her dance partner and ex-NFL player Danny Amendola, will be among them. Viewers have been taken aback by Amendola’s performances this season. Professional athletes are typically impressive on the show, but what makes them unique compared to actors? In an interview with TopMob, Carson discussed this very topic.
In the lead-up to our three-hour grand finale, I had the privilege to engage in a wide-ranging conversation with Witney Carson. Our discussion eventually veered towards the contrast between collaborating with athletes and actors. Given her experience with both, I asked which she’d prefer as the 2025 TV lineup draws near. However, she highlighted the significant advantage of partnering with someone like Danny Amendola in her work.
As a gamer, I find that athletes have an uncanny knack for being fully immersed and dedicated to their craft. They’re all about keeping their eyes on the prize, executing each play with precision, and giving it their all. They’re incredibly coachable, soaking up guidance like a sponge and putting in the extra effort to perfect their skills. A touch of perfectionism drives them – they strive for excellence in everything they do. If I’ve had the pleasure of working with good football players (which I have), they’re dead set on delivering their best performance in every aspect. Actors are also hardworking, but athletes’ relentless drive and mental fortitude is something that can’t be taught or matched – it’s simply extraordinary!
I completely understand Witney Carson’s point of view, and it’s particularly clear after Danny Amendola claimed the top spot in one week. His performance has made him a strong contender for winning “Dancing with the Stars” this season. He excels at executing challenging moves that an average dancer wouldn’t be capable of, as demonstrated by his viral TikTok leg pull attempts.
As a gamer, I’m not suggesting that Amendola or NFL veteran Von Miller, whom Witney Carson has worked with in the past, don’t face challenges. In fact, Witney shared with me the unique difficulties that can arise when working with an athlete, compared to say, Alfonso Ribeiro, who danced with her and won back in Season 19 of DWTS.
You cannot teach performance. I haven’t had to really teach performance because I’ve had so many actors and performers that were so natural at that. Um And now it’s kind of the flip side where I’ve had to now like, teach somebody how to perform, which has been interesting.
It seems quite clear now that an actor might excel more in the expressive aspects of a dance rather than perfectly executing dance moves themselves. Reginald Vel Johnson amazed everyone with his Die Hard tribute dance performance, but it was his emotional delivery, not his dance steps, that truly impressed the audience. I doubt Danny Amendola could have conveyed the same intensity in a dance where he primarily stood still, and that speaks volumes about his acting skills.
Excitedly speaking, it’ll be intriguing to find out if Witney Carson and Danny Amendola take home the Mirrorball trophy, marking the second time Witney wins since she joined DWTS. Despite coming close a few times since her initial triumph, Witney emphasizes that she prioritizes the quality of their performances over winning. Nevertheless, a win would undoubtedly be gratifying, and I’m confident there will be numerous viewers cheering for them on finals night.
The final episode of “Dancing with the Stars” Season 33 will broadcast on ABC and Disney+ at 8:00 p.m. ET on November 26th (Tuesday). I’m all geared up for an exciting evening filled with dance competitions, and I have a feeling that this night could bring some unexpected twists, making it one of the most unforeseeable shows in recent history.
