Daredevil: Born Again: 4 Main Takeaways From The First Look Footage At D23 2024

As a seasoned gamer and comic book enthusiast who’s been following the Marvel Cinematic Universe since its inception, I can confidently say that the latest D23 reveal of “Daredevil: Born Again” has left me absolutely thrilled! The prospect of Kingpin knowing Matt Murdock’s identity, the introduction of White Tiger, and the tantalizing hint of multiple Daredevil costumes are all elements that have piqued my curiosity and set my expectations soaring.

During San Diego Comic-Con 2024 this past summer, Marvel Studios unveiled some thrilling previews of their upcoming movies. Highlights included fresh insights into “Captain America: Brave New World”, first looks at “Thunderbolts”, and a quick peek at “Fantastic Four: First Steps”. Despite the captivating display, it was hard not to notice that there was less emphasis on content from Disney+.

Luckily, Marvel compensated somewhat for the deficiency during D23 2024 event, partly by showing the initial snippets of the upcoming Marvel television series “Daredevil: Rebirth” scheduled for early 2025.

Tonight, in front of a vast audience at the Honda Center, Anaheim, California, Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige introduced Charlie Cox, Vincent D’Onofrio, Jon Bernthal, Elden Henson, and Deborah Ann Woll to unveil a sneak peek of the highly anticipated Daredevil sequel series. Regrettably, it seems this footage won’t be publicly available online, but I was fortunate enough to attend the event and share these key insights about the upcoming series on Disney+:

Wilson Fisk Seems To Know That Matt Murdock Is Daredevil

For avid Daredevil enthusiasts, the title “Born Again” holds significant importance. This storyline, originally from the comics, is notably one of Frank Miller’s most renowned works. It tells a gripping tale where The Man Without Fear experiences his life being deliberately dismantled as Wilson Fisk uncovers his hidden identity, leading to a memorable and impactful narrative.

Currently, we’re uncertain about how closely the upcoming “Daredevil: Born Again” series will follow the original plot, but the D23 footage hints at key elements of the comic arc being incorporated into the show. It appears that the Kingpin character might be privy to Matt Murdock’s secret identity in the storyline.

At one stage during the preview, the protagonist and antagonist are seated opposite each other in a diner. The hero issues a threat, stating he’ll be ready if the villain crosses boundaries. In response to this warning, Fisk queries who exactly is giving the warning: Is it Matt Murdock himself or his alter ego?

In the upcoming 2025 comic book TV series, we can expect to discover: What means does Kingpin employ to uncover the information, and how will he leverage this knowledge for his own benefit?

A First Look At White Tiger

As a passionate fan, I’m thrilled about the return of beloved characters from Daredevil: Born Again, such as Matt Murdock, Wilson Fisk, Foggy Nelson, Karen Page, and Frank Castle. However, it seems there are some fresh faces joining the fray too! One of these newcomers appears to be none other than the Marvel Comics hero, White Tiger. Although the specific version wasn’t revealed in the footage, it’s likely the Hector Ayala character, though I couldn’t quite catch the actor portraying him yet. What was clear, however, is that this masked vigilante, clad in his distinctive white and black attire, was hard to miss on screen!

In the upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again, it’s still unclear how White Tiger will influence the narrative, but there appears to be a potential connection between him and Matt Murdock. This bond could form when Matt requires a legal representative, as shown in a prison visiting room scene where they communicate. It’s exciting to speculate that these characters might collaborate in their efforts to bring down the Kingpin at some point in the future.

How Many Costumes Might We See Daredevil Wear In Born Again?

The last time viewers witnessed Matt Murdock donning his complete Daredevil outfit, it bore a significantly distinct appearance compared to what was seen throughout the three seasons on Netflix’s Daredevil. In his multi-episode stint in She-Hulk: Attorney At Law, however, the character sported a fresh, yellow attire instead of the usual red – a nod to the hero’s original color scheme as depicted in comic books.

The majority of the initial trailer for “Daredevil: Born Again” depicts the blind vigilante in his usual attire, yet hints suggest that multiple costumes could be part of the series’ new take on the character.

In a scene from the footage, Matt Murdock (Daredevil) is spotted gazing into a closet filled with more than a couple of his iconic cowls – there are five to be exact. Among them are red masks, a yellow one, as well as silver and black variants. Despite not donning an unconventional costume in the preview, the presence of these additional suits raises questions about potential suit designs for the series. Given that the filmmakers might only introduce multiple suit designs if they plan to unveil them, it’s something fans should watch out for as we approach the show’s debut next year.

As Expected, There Will Seemingly Be No Shortage Of Ass-Kicking

When talking about what makes the Netflix Daredevil series stand out, it’s often the intense, dynamic, and brutal fight scenes that highlight the main character as an expert tough guy that fans rave about. Given this, it won’t come as a shock to hear that the upcoming series, Daredevil: Born Again, is set to deliver more of the same action, with Matt Murdock ready to dish out a solid six rounds of payback.

The footage for D23’s “Daredevil: Born Again” also included scenes of the titular character, Daredevil, violently fighting enemies while wearing his suit, as well as in regular street clothes. In the latter instances, it remains to be seen how Matt Murdock will justify being both blind and a martial arts expert, but we’re eager to find out when the series premieres early next year.
