As a long-time fan of the original Daredevil series, I can say with absolute certainty that the addition of Muse to Daredevil: Born Again has me both excited and slightly apprehensive. My first exposure to Marvel Comics was through the gritty and dark world of Daredevil, and the introduction of Muse only serves to bring back those memories.
In the much-anticipated comeback of the iconic Daredevil cast from the original series on the MCU, titled Daredevil: Born Again, it’s been announced that they will be accompanied by a fresh and formidable adversary. Originally starring Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock, also known as Daredevil, the team consisting of Foggy Nelson (Elden Henson) and Karen Page (Deborah Ann Woll), worked tirelessly to take down Wilson Fisk (Vincent D’Onofrio) in Hell’s Kitchen’s flawed justice system during the day. Meanwhile, Murdock patrolled the city’s rooftops at night, battling Kingpin’s minions. The imposing villain played by D’Onofrio is making a return to the show’s Disney+ revival, however, Daredevil will have more than just Kingpin to deal with in this new chapter.
Who Is Muse in Daredevil: Born Again?
In a departure from its usual territory, the initial Daredevil series steered Marvel towards a far more ominous and grim trajectory. Given a TV-MA rating, it delved into graphic violence and somber subject matter. Even within the grisly deaths portrayed in Daredevil, that world couldn’t have accommodated the depraved savagery of Muse. Making his debut in Marvel Comics in 2016, Muse is a psychopathic serial killer and artist. He gained notoriety in Hell’s Kitchen when his first masterpiece was uncovered. Muse crafted a mural using the blood of over a hundred individuals who had mysteriously vanished.
Clad in a white suit and mask, with crimson stains trickling from his eyes, Muse exudes both precision and insanity. As he wreaks havoc through Hell’s Kitchen, this killer leaves behind intricate works of art – macabre murals and dioramas crafted from the body parts and blood of his victims. When Daredevil initially encounters Muse, the serial killer deliberately smashes his own fingers to demonstrate that his abilities would be ineffective against him, ultimately slipping away.
However, it’s important to note that Muse isn’t solely a psychopathic murderer; he possesses superhuman abilities as well. Although the specifics of his past remain obscure, his physical prowess is evident in his ability to tear apart his victims with nothing more than raw strength. This suggests that Muse has some degree of superhuman power. Moreover, he demonstrates impressive martial arts skills, even holding his own against Daredevil in combat, indicating that he’s not just a formidable fighter but also an exceptional one.
Although it will stream on Disney+, the upcoming series Daredevil: Born Again is reported to have a more somber atmosphere compared to its initial run. The participation of Muse in the production only reinforces this notion and raises curiosity among fans familiar with the character about how intense the villain’s portrayal will be, given his notorious work. There’s no doubt that this adversary will prove to be Daredevil’s toughest test yet.
