Matt Murdock’s comeback in the MCU might have been celebrated by some, but when considering viewership, fresh statistics indicate that Daredevil: Born Again underperformed compared to shows like Agatha All Along, Echo, and even Secret Invasion, which has faced criticism. Interestingly, Nielsen’s data shows that the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again didn’t make it onto the Top 10 list for the week of its release, making it the first Marvel Studios TV series to achieve this.
In the opening week, “Daredevil: Born Again” made its grand entrance with two episodes on March 4th, amassing over 7.5 million views within the first five days on Disney+. However, this impressive start didn’t surpass the debut of “Loki” Season 2, which garnered 10.9 million views in just three days, or “Agatha All Along”, which achieved 9.3 million views in its initial week. It’s worth noting that both “Secret Invasion”, premiered in 2023, and “Echo”, released in January 2024, also made it onto Nielsen’s Top 10 chart.
‘Daredevil: Born Again’ Is Already Renewed for Two More Seasons
While a setback like this would typically lead to the cancellation of numerous television series, the Marvel Cinematic Universe operates outside of conventional Hollywood norms. A film’s underperformance or a TV show receiving negative reviews doesn’t necessarily mean the end for their characters. Instead, there exists an intricate plan that facilitates character transitions between different sub-franchises, allowing them to continue their stories even if their individual projects don’t achieve the expected success.
2025’s “Daredevil: Born Again” was one of the most eagerly awaited Marvel productions on Disney+ that year, standing as one of the rare shows scheduled for release. Despite not receiving rave reviews to match the Netflix series, it still garnered a robust 87% Tomatometer score and 80% Popcornmeter rating. This was notably better than many other Marvel projects released in recent times.
As a dedicated cinephile, I couldn’t help but notice the intricate chess moves unfolding long before the premiere of Daredevil: Born Again. It was evident from the get-go that this show was part of a grand strategy, and as fate would have it, they began filming Season 2 concurrently with its debut on Disney+. What’s more intriguing is that the series is being eyed as a potential annual installment, rather than just another one-and-done production that we’ve grown accustomed to seeing on Disney+’s vast landscape.
– The buzz surrounding Season 2 is immense, with critics calling it some of the finest writing in the franchise so far. With its story now firmly set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe, any issues that arose during the show’s initial production have long been resolved. Furthermore, the return of popular characters like Jessica Jones in Season 2 could spark renewed interest in the series. However, fans will have to be patient until next year to find out if Daredevil: Born Again manages to crack the Nielsen ratings when it returns.
