In a fresh turn of events, the actor who portrayed Darkseid in the SnyderVerse, Ray Porter, is back in the DC universe, this time essaying a renowned Superman character. Initially conceived by director Zack Snyder as the main antagonist for his Justice League trilogy, Darkseid was played by Porter. The formidable DC villain made a brief appearance in Zack Snyder’s Justice League as the mastermind manipulating Steppenwolf in search of the Anti-Life Equation. However, due to the rebooting of the DC Universe under James Gunn and Peter Safran, it seems that this particular storyline may never be fully realized, much to the disappointment of many Snyder fans.
The official word is out – DC has unveiled the cast for the full-cast audiobook version of All-Star Superman. Among the stars is one intriguing actor from the SnyderVerse, Ray Porter. Known for his role as Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, he takes on a new character here: Jor-El, Superman’s Kryptonian father, in this adaptation of a DC Comics classic.
In the SnyderVerse, Porter isn’t the sole actor to take on a new role post the final credits of the old DCEU in 2023. Notably, Jason Momoa, who played Aquaman, is set to debut in James Gunn’s DCU next year as he realizes his ambition to portray Lobo, the intergalactic bounty hunter, in Supergirl.
This year’s version of Superman and the revamped DCU were influenced by the renowned comic “All-Star Superman”. Now, fans can immerse themselves in the timeless DC tale through an audiobook, available from Penguin Random House Audio. The story is narrated by Marc Thompson as Superman, Kristen Sieh as Lois Lane, Christopher Smith as Lex Luthor, Ray Porter as Jor-El, and other talented voice actors.
Could Ray Porter Return As the DCU’s Darkseid?
Ray Porter made a small appearance as Darkseid in Zack Snyder’s Justice League, positioning him for sequels that may not materialize. Consequently, fans did not have the opportunity to witness him fully embody DC’s principal villain. However, Porter expressed his gratitude for the chance to portray Darkseid following the reboot of the DC Universe.
After expressing readiness to collaborate with the “blue brand” once more following his role as Jor-El in the All-Star Superman audiobook, it’s possible that Porter might be part of the big-screen DC Universe in the future, potentially in a fresh character or even reprising an existing one.
In contrast to the fresh start of the DCU, some actors from the SnyderVerse era, including Viola Davis as Amanda Waller, have continued their roles. Given that Gunn is said to be welcoming more of Snyder’s cast members back, there’s a possibility that Porter might reprise his role as Darkseid once he makes an appearance in the DCU.
It looks like we might be seeing the Mister Miracle series debuting earlier than expected, with DC Studios recently unveiling plans for an R-rated show. Although it hasn’t been definitively decided whether this animated project falls within the DC Universe, the plot description hints that “[Mister Miracle’s] father figure, Darkseid, has acquired the Anti-Life Equation.” This suggests that the notorious Justice League antagonist, Darkseid, may make an appearance.
