Darren Criss and Renée Elise Goldsberry are co-hosting this year’s Tony Awards preshow.
On Sunday, June 8th at 6:40-8 p.m. Eastern Time (ET) or 3:40-5 p.m. Pacific Time (PT), you can watch the first part of the Tony Awards live on Pluto TV, featuring unique content that won’t be available elsewhere.
2016 saw Tony Award winner Goldsberry triumph in the category of featured actress in a musical, recognition bestowed for her stellar performance in the musical, “Hamilton”. Most recently, she has graced our screens in the comedy production, “All In: Comedy About Love”, and next month will release her first album titled, “Who I Really Am”.
This year, Darren Criss earned his first nomination for a Tony Award in the leading role category for musicals with his performance in the original production, “Maybe Happy Ending.” He is competing against Andrew Durand (“Dead Outlaw”), Tom Francis (“Sunset Blvd.”), Jonathan Groff (“Just in Time”), James Monroe Iglehart (“A Wonderful World: The Louis Armstrong Musical”) and Jeremy Jordan (“Floyd Collins”). Apart from this nomination, Criss has also made his mark on Broadway with roles in “How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying”, “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”, “American Buffalo”, and off-Broadway’s “Little Shop of Horrors.
Following the pre-event program, the 78th annual Tony Awards will commence on CBS, with Cynthia Erivo as the hostess for the evening. This year, the event is back at Radio City Music Hall in New York City, having been previously held at Lincoln Center’s David H. Koch Theater.
As a gaming enthusiast, I’d like to share some behind-the-scenes info about the Tony Awards, a grand event that’s been gracing CBS since 1978. This spectacle isn’t just a one-man show; it’s a joint production between Tony Award Productions and three heavyweights in the theatre world: the American Theatre Wing, The Broadway League, and White Cherry Entertainment. The big bosses behind the scenes are Ricky Kirshner and Glenn Weiss, who work tirelessly to ensure the show runs smoothly and shines brightly on the small screen.
