Dave Franco on Luigi Mangione Comparisons: ”I’ve Never Received More Texts in My Life”

Yes, Dave Franco knows you think he looks like Luigi Mangione.

At the Sundance Film Festival, The Hollywood Reporter spoke with Franco who is showcasing two films, one of them being the horror movie “Together” where he stars alongside his real-life partner Alison Brie. When asked if there have been any contacts regarding the similarities drawn between him and Mangione, Brie quipped “Anyone? Are you saying everyone?” To which Franco replied, “I’ve never received more messages about anything in my life.

He continued, “Anyone who has my phone number has reached out about it.”

Ever since December 4th, news outlets have been abuzz about the case of Mangione. This is due to the tragic incident where UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson was fatally shot in midtown Manhattan by an individual later identified as a 26-year-old. A prolonged search ensued for Mangione, who was finally apprehended on December 9th in Pennsylvania. He has been charged with murder and has pleaded not guilty, awaiting his court appearance in February.

Immediately following Mangione’s unmasking as the culprit, social media users swiftly suggested Franco as the ideal actor to portray him in a hypothetical film. Although no scripted movie has been confirmed, multiple documentary projects on the murder are underway, with one being developed by Oscar-winning director Alex Gibney.

However, it seems like there haven’t been any formal proposals yet,” Brie quipped, to which Franco agreed, stating, “That’s correct, nothing official has been presented.

In the film “Together” by director Michael Shanks, featuring Franco and Brie, a couple embarks on a new life in the countryside, only to stumble upon a mysterious and supernatural entity. The premiere of this chilling tale is scheduled for January 26 at an upcoming festival.

Brie shares her thoughts on portraying an on-screen couple with her real-life husband: “I believe we were able to connect with the themes of intimacy because, after being together for a long time, we share a unique bond. We have our own private jokes and understand each other’s habits, which is a wonderful aspect of intimacy. However, I often wonder about the downside – what happens when one loses their individuality within such a close relationship?

Franco expresses that filming required us to arrive at 6 a.m., keeping our energy at maximum levels from the very first take until the end of each day. There were mornings when I doubted my ability to continue, but once immersed in the work, it felt like we were pulling off something extraordinary.
