David Beckham, Netflix’s Bela Bajaria to Headline Inaugural MIP London

As a fervent admirer of the world of entertainment and content creation, I am absolutely thrilled about the upcoming fireside chat between soccer legend David Beckham and Bela Bajaria, Netflix’s chief content officer, at MIP London. The synergy between their diverse yet complementary backgrounds promises a captivating dialogue filled with insights, anecdotes, and perhaps even a peek into the future of global content production.

David Beckham, the esteemed former soccer player, and Bela Bajaria, the top executive of content at Netflix, are set to have an engaging conversation at the first-ever MIP London event, which focuses on content and networking, taking place in February.

Collaborators behind the Emmy-winning documentary series titled Beckham, and currently producing a documentary about Victoria Beckham (the Brit’s Studio 99), are set to collaborate again. This time, they will both appear on the main stage at London’s Savoy Hotel, where they will each share their unique perspectives.

In 2019, Beckham established a multifaceted content production company known as Studio 99. This studio handles both editorial and commercial projects, with a focus on creating and producing documentaries, series, and formats for various international platforms like Netflix, Disney+, and Amazon Prime Video.

Ted Sarandos, who came aboard Netflix in 2016 and took on the role of chief content officer in January 2023, manages teams that produce Netflix content from various parts of the globe. This includes hit shows like “Stranger Things,” “Squid Game,” “Wednesday,” “Bridgerton,” “Heeramandi,” and “Lupin.” Sarandos also spearheads Netflix’s efforts in live events and sports, with productions such as “Chris Rock: Selective Outrage” and “The Roast of Tom Brady,” as well as multiyear agreements with the NFL and WWE.

Bajaria, who recently made it onto the Hollywood Reporter’s annual list honoring the 100 most influential women in the entertainment industry, had previously served as president at Universal Television.

Lucy Smith, director of MIP London and MIPCOM Cannes, stated, “At MIP London next February, we’ve pledged to provide significant events and forward-thinking discussions within the TV industry. We are thrilled to announce that Bela and David, who are highly influential figures with a global impact, will be gracing our stage in London. They each offer unique insights into content creation and audience engagement, and they both have extensive international platforms. It’s an honor to have them both join us at MIP.

MIP London will take place from Feb. 23 to 27.
