As a gamer who’s spent countless hours immersed in military-themed games like Call of Duty and Battlefield, I can wholeheartedly say that SEAL Team has been one of the most captivating and authentic representations of the military life on television. Having played these games for years, I’ve developed a deep appreciation for the dedication, camaraderie, and sacrifices portrayed in this series.
2024 saw quite a few favorite shows wrapping up or getting the axe, and unfortunately, SEAL Team is among them. As we dive into its seventh and final season on Paramount+, the military drama keeps delivering heart-stopping action both on and off the battlefield with Bravo’s missions as intense as ever. Though fans might crave more of one of Paramount+’s finest series, lead actor David Boreanaz is ready for this chapter to close, and he shares his reasons behind it.
Actor David Boreanaz, known for playing Master Chief Jason Hayes in SEAL Team, has previously discussed the impact the series has had on his health, with frequent visits to the doctor. Given this, it’s understandable that, at 55 years old, he’s not keen on performing high-impact stunts and fights for much longer. Moreover, Boreanaz also shared with Collider that the narrative arc of Jason and the team has reached a point where an ending seems appropriate.
Previously, I had made it clear that the writers’ strike didn’t change my decision to leave the show after this season. Frankly, I felt the character was fully developed and exploring him from the sidelines wasn’t his style or mine. I’m more of an adventurous, curious, and leading alpha male type, which doesn’t align with that role. That wasn’t a part I wanted to play.
I completely concur with the fans’ desires for more “SEAL Team,” but I believe this is the optimal outcome for the show, no matter how it concludes. In today’s television landscape, not many shows have the privilege of deciding their own fate, so I appreciate that “SEAL Team” does.
As a dedicated fan, I find myself reflecting on the current circumstances of Jason battling his TBI, Ray devoting himself more to our veterans’ center, Davis juggling her new job and blossoming relationship with Sonny, and other challenges they face. This intricate web of events leaves me pondering if now might be the perfect moment for Bravo’s captivating story to reach its conclusion.
Despite the announcement that SEAL Team’s seventh season would be its finale and Boreanaz’s readiness, it doesn’t guarantee a joyful conclusion for the entire Bravo team. Although it’s challenging to foresee the outcomes of these final episodes, the former Bones star hinted that viewers might have conflicting feelings about them. Over seven seasons, this isn’t exactly uncommon.
After a writers’ strike occurred and lingered for several months, it was mutually agreed upon. I’m delighted that we managed to conclude this character’s final season in a way that felt fitting. Truthfully, fans might either appreciate it or question our decision. The challenge with a character like this is that there’s always the chance they could meet their end on the battlefield. That’s the realistic touch, the authenticity of it. That potential has been present since the very beginning of the show, and it may play out, or it might not, but I tend to believe it will.
The importance has never been greater, given that this is the last season, and the “ultimate sacrifice” underscores this fact strongly. Fans, along with Bravo, are still deeply affected by Max Thieriot’s character Clay Spenser’s departure, and losing another team member would be devastating. However, SEAL Team is known for its unpredictability, much like the dangers of being in unknown territories. As a result, anything could potentially transpire.
At a minimum, fans should receive some resolution, and that might include an ending involving the characters’ demise. It seems like David Boreanaz has been contemplating the show’s finale for quite some time. Furthermore, the decision to conclude the series after Season 7 likely wouldn’t have been made if it wasn’t the best course of action.
To see how SEAL Team ends, you can stream new episodes with a Paramount+ subscription every Sunday.
