David Tennant’s Heartbreaking Regret Over Missing Beatles in Doctor Who

David Tennant nearly accomplished everything on his tenure. He battled monsters, journeyed to various galaxies, had thrilling encounters, clashed with the Daleks… yet, there was one activity he truly yearned to perform, which unfortunately eluded him throughout.

The tenant had longed to encounter a particular band, but unfortunately, he didn’t get that chance. Despite being content with what he managed to achieve, he was disappointed about not experiencing that one special event. He shared his feelings during an interview at MGM Comic Con in London. In his words, “We got to visit Shakespeare’s Globe, which was incredibly exciting as I had always wanted to do that.” This encounter took place in the episode titled “The Shakespeare Code,” where the Doctor met Shakespeare and battled witches together with his companion Martha Jones. Some of the scenes for this episode were filmed inside what remains of the original Globe Theatre.

Tennant mentioned that he had always yearned to revisit The Cavern and witness The Beatles at their inception, an experience he felt he missed out on since they had already achieved this during his absence. However, in the episode “The Devil’s Chord,” he did indeed meet The Beatles, but they were not central figures in the storyline; the plot primarily revolved around the villain The Maestro and the Doctor’s efforts to vanquish them.

In a nutshell, there’s always potential for more Beatles episodes down the line, and that’s one of the appealing aspects of this series because it has plenty of untold stories. As Tennant explained at the con, “Doctor Who is a show that leaves a lasting impression as a child, and if it manages to hook you like it did for me, it tends not to let go. The magic of those early stories stays with you, and when Doctor Who takes you on a journey through time and space, that experience remains etched in your memory forever.

Don’t Expect Tennant Back In Doctor Who

Instead of the Fourteenth Doctor embarking on future space-time escapades, another individual will take on that role. While David Tennant’s character has a possibility of reappearing in the series due to the door being left slightly ajar, it is highly unlikely he will return, despite persistent speculation about his comeback.

At the 2025 BAFTAs, he remarked that one reason why [Doctor Who] remains lively is its ability to reinvent and create fresh narratives. As for now, it seems this process is continuing without him for a while, he added. However, if there was any truth to the rumors of his return, he assured everyone he would be sure to share the news!
