As a devoted fan of gripping thrillers and captivating storylines, I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear that The Day of the Jackal is returning for a second season! With its stellar cast led by Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, the first season has already proven itself as a must-watch series.
The Day of the Jackal will go on for more days at Peacock and Sky.
Sky and the NBCUniversal-owned streamer have decided to continue the popular thriller series, “The Day of the Jackal,” featuring Eddie Redmayne and Lashana Lynch, for a second season. This decision follows a successful premiere in both the U.K. and the U.S. The series debuted strongly on Sky Atlantic in the U.K., attracting 3 million viewers in its first week – the highest viewership for any series debut there in the past two years. In the United States, the show ranked among the top five original streaming series on Peacock during its opening weekend, according to preliminary Nielsen data.
The show is inspired by a novel published in 1971 titled “The Day of the Jackal,” written by Frederick Forsyth, and was earlier made into a movie in 1973. The series tells the story of a thrilling chase between an elusive assassin (portrayed by Eddie Redmayne) and a resilient MI6 agent (played by Lashana Lynch), who is relentless in her pursuit of him.
It remains undecided if Lynch or Redmayne will take up their roles once more for season two; the initial season, consisting of ten episodes, is currently airing on Sky Atlantic in the UK (where it began on November 7) and Peacock in the US (which started broadcasting it on November 14).
In addition to its main cast from season one, Úrsula Corberó, Charles Dance, Richard Dormer, Chukwudi Iwuji, Lia Williams, Khalid Abdalla, Eleanor Matsuura, Jonjo O’Neill, and Sule Rimi are also part of the ensemble.
The production company Universal International Studio in collaboration with Carnival Films is behind the creation of “The Day of the Jackal.” Ronan Bennett, known for his work on “Top Boy,” is the adapter of the novel and also serves as an executive producer alongside Gareth Neame and Nigel Marchant from Carnival Films, Sam Hoyle of Sky Studios, Sue Naegle, Brian Kirk, and Redmayne. Lynch and Marianne Buckland are co-executive producers. The directors for season one include Brian Kirk, Anthony Philipson, Paul Wilmshurst, and Anu Menon.
