DC’s Black Lightning Is Leaving Netflix—What You Need to Know Before It’s Gone!

Sad news for DC and superhero enthusiasts, especially fans of The CW’s Arrowverse, as all shows are preparing to part ways from their current streaming service. Specifically, Black Lightning, the fifth series in the franchise, is set to exit the streamer in every international region on February 9, 2025. Originally labeled a “Netflix Original” in numerous countries, this show is now among the growing list of Netflix’s original projects that will be leaving the platform (as reported by What’s on Netflix).

Unfortunately for fans who follow US-Arrowverse on streaming platforms, “Black Lightning” will no longer be available on Netflix starting from September 1, 2026. Although there’s still some time left for American viewers to catch up, the countdown has already begun.

Originating from Salim Akil and first aired on The CW in 2018, the TV series “Black Lightning” features Cress Williams as the lead character. This superhero was initially introduced in DC Comics by Tony Isabella and Trevor Von Eeden under the same name. In the show, we find the retired Black Lightning being pulled back into action when his daughter gets involved with a street gang, all while juggling his responsibilities as a family man.

All the Arrowverse Shows Are Set To Leave Netflix in the Near Future

Similar to many shows in The CW’s Arrowverse, Black Lightning sparked significant debate among viewers. While it has received an exceptionally high rating of 92% from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, with the initial three seasons earning “fresh” scores (regrettably, there is no score for Season 4), the general audience response was less captivated by this comic book series, as evidenced by its 49% score on Popcornmeter. Despite this divide in opinion, the show and the franchise overall have a dedicated fanbase who will be disheartened by recent developments.

Unfortunately for Arrowverse enthusiasts, it seems that the series from this popular franchise are all slated to depart from Netflix in the United States soon. Leading the exodus is the original show, “Arrow,” which currently has a removal date of December 18, 2025. This groundbreaking series, created by Greg Berlanti, Marc Guggenheim, and Andrew Kreisberg, is based on the DC Comics character Green Arrow and follows billionaire playboy Oliver Queen, portrayed by Stephen Amell, who adopts the alter ego of Arrow after surviving five years on a secluded island and deciding to pursue vigilante justice upon his return.

Shows from the Arrowverse, such as Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow, and The Flash, are set to depart the streaming service. Specifically, Supergirl will say goodbye on December 15, 2026, followed by Legends of Tomorrow on September 2, 2027, and lastly, The Flash on November 28, 2028.
