As someone who has been following the DC Universe for decades, I can confidently say that the rumor mill needs to slow down a bit. James Gunn‘s latest clarifications about the upcoming Batman and Booster Gold projects are a breath of fresh air in this sea of speculation.

Be cautious about the speculation circulating online regarding James Gunn’s involvement in upcoming DC Universe projects, as many unfounded reports are being spread. Gunn himself has been vocal about debunking the most baseless claims. Alongside Peter Safran, Gunn and Safran have recently made significant strides, revealing new projects and providing updates on the DCU’s Phase 1 – named “Gods & Monsters“. For every official announcement, there seem to be double the amount of rumors spawned by enthusiastic fans and self-proclaimed industry insiders. However, Gunn is helping to clarify matters, addressing and debunking rumors about two particularly exciting DC projects on social media threads.

After wrapping up the shoot for Superman’s latest movie, I can’t help but notice the enigma surrounding Batman’s upcoming film, The Brave and the Bold. There’s been a buzz online suggesting that DC Studios are keen on casting an older version of Batman, but I find myself skeptical about such claims.

Occasionally, the information people receive through rumors can be incorrect. However, there are instances when it appears they invent stories purely for more views or clicks. The situation at hand falls under this category.

In a different conversation on Threads, there was also a query about Booster Gold’s casting. A picture from the Superman set resembling Kumail Nanjiani, an actor known for Eternals, has sparked speculation among fans, suggesting he might be playing Booster Gold in the DCU. Directly addressing the rumor, James Gunn confirmed:

No
. I foolishly didn’t even know there was more than [leaked] one photo!”

In contrast to comics, where various artists can adjust Batman’s age based on their requirements, the DC film universe faces a practical challenge: actors age or encounter scheduling issues. This makes finding the ideal Batman a remarkably tough task.

As a die-hard cinema enthusiast, I’ve been intrigued by the buzz surrounding an older Batman, given DC Studios’ recent unveiling of two upcoming projects centering around Bruce Wayne’s adopted sons – a Dick Grayson/Jason Todd film and a Teen Titans movie that seems to revolve around none other than Dick Grayson himself. This development lends credence to the idea that our Batman in the DC Universe might be a bit older, making the concept of two adopted kids more plausible.

Choosing an older actor for Batman might limit the character’s future appearances in the DCU. On the other hand, David Corenswet, at just 31 years old, could potentially star in numerous Superman films. Conversely, if rumors are true and Batman is to be played by someone in their late 40s or 50s, it would mean that the Caped Crusader might only appear in a few standalone and team-up movies before moving towards Batman Beyond or The Dark Knight Returns, should James Gunn decide to follow that path.
