DCU Superman & Supergirl Comic Book Art Imagines James Gunn’s Finished Film

DCU Superman & Supergirl Comic Book Art Imagines James Gunn's Finished Film

As a seasoned gamer with a soft spot for superheroes, I can hardly contain my excitement about the upcoming cinematic adventures of Superman and Supergirl! The artwork, reminiscent of classic comic book styles, has me yearning for the nostalgic feel of yesteryears’ comics.

The artwork’s design mirrors the aesthetic that James Gunn and his team picked for their 2025 film’s character reveals, which featured comic book-style illustrations reminiscent of those from the movie. In June 2023, Corenswet was selected to portray Clark Kent/Kal-El/Superman, while Alcock was chosen in January to play Kara Zor-El, who is known as Supergirl.

As a devoted fan, I can’t help but share my excitement about an amazing piece of fan art! It features our beloved Kryptonian cousins meeting in a massive book penned by James Gunn, simply titled “Superman and Supergirl“. This 80-page giant-sized book is something I can’t wait to get my hands on! (Posted by @davi_a86 on X, previously known as Twitter)

Excited as can be, here I am, a die-hard fan, eagerly awaiting the upcoming encounter between Superman and Supergirl, portrayed by none other than David Corenswet and Milly Alcock! Who else among us comic enthusiasts is brimming with anticipation? A nod to the classic DC Retro comics cover art seems fitting for this nostalgic moment. #retrocomics #fanart #dcu

Over the weekend, Kevin Feige, head of Marvel Studios, shared his perspective on the ongoing rivalry between DC and Marvel during the 2024 San Diego Comic-Con. In contrast, James Gunn’s Superman film was not showcased at the convention, but yesterday (Tuesday, July 30), the co-chair and co-CEO of DC Studios announced that production on the 2025 Superman movie has been completed. Gunn posted about it on social media, stating that filming for the Man of Steel’s big-screen return is now officially wrapped up.

As we conclude, let’s give our cast and crew a heartfelt thank you. Their dedication, imagination, and sheer grit have breathed life into this cinematic journey. I embarked on this adventure with the intention of crafting a tale about a virtuous man amidst an imperfect world. The kindness, goodness, and love I’ve witnessed daily on set have been my guiding light, rejuvenating me when I felt drained and propelling me forward even when I thought I couldn’t take another step alone.

It’s been a pleasure working with each of you, from the depths of my heart. The real prize wasn’t reaching the destination, but rather the camaraderie, laughter, emotions, brainstorming sessions, and the sprinkling of magic that we experienced together on set. For those moments, I am eternally grateful. ❤️

Gunn’s Superman film, previously known as Superman: Legacy, is set to soar on July 11, 2025. At the same time, director Craig Gillespie and the Alcock-led Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow are expected to premiere in theaters on June 26, 2026. This is approximately a year after Kara Zor-El’s Kryptonian cousin will first appear on the Silver Screen as part of the DC Universe.

For enthusiasts, here is a sneak peek at the trailer for the upcoming DC Universe animated series, Creature Commandos, available below. This series is set to release before the highly anticipated movie debuts of both Superman and Supergirl later this year.
