As a lifelong gamer with over two decades of gaming under my belt, I’ve seen it all – from the rise and fall of countless games to the evolution of genres themselves. In this ever-changing landscape, one game that has caught my attention is Deadlock.
In simple terms, VALORANT and Overwatch are two highly debated first-person shooter games. While VALORANT has a devoted fanbase who admire its unique Agent skills and originality, many others criticize it for straying from Counter-Strike’s fundamental concept. On the other hand, Overwatch is often seen as sheer chaos by some players, but others find themselves captivated by the turmoil.
In the game Deadlock, Valve’s innovative blend of MOBA and shooter genres, it seems that comparisons with VALORANT and Overwatch, its two comparable titles, have left a divisive taste not unlike marmite on its surface.
Currently undergoing testing, Deadlock has sparked a divide in opinions, with certain live streamers praising it as the “greatest third-person shooter yet,” while others express a preference for SMITE instead.
Shroud applauds ‘addicting’ Deadlock
“This is probably the best 3rd person shooter I’ve ever played…the game is gonna absolutely be addicting”

Since its launch in Steam’s testing phase last week, Deadlock has seen significant success. It reached a peak of 89,000 simultaneous players and attracted 118,000 viewers on Twitch, which is quite the contrast to PlayStation’s Concord, which has had trouble maintaining more than 1,000 players.
A lot of players have already fallen in love with it, Michael “Shroud” Grzesiek being one of them.
Regarding his own game, Spectre Divide, currently under test, the well-known streamer and shooter game enthusiast asserted that Deadlock is on the verge of becoming dominant, praising it as “an exceptional third-person shooter” that could potentially outshine any other.
He stated during his stream, “I believe this is one of the finest third-person shooters I’ve ever encountered…this game is undeniably going to be hard to put down.”
“When it’s released, this game is expected to become extremely popular very quickly, as it is the first arena shooter/MOBA that is genuinely well-made. He further implied that it will surpass games like Overwatch.”
But not everyone agrees.
Summit1g slams Deadlock, ‘I’d rather play SMITE’
Summit1G has found Deadlock rather unenjoyable and finds himself yearning for a change to SMITE instead.

As I step onto the virtual battlefield, I find myself squaring off against another seasoned gamer, Jaryd “Summit1g” Lazar. His shooter credentials are impressive in their own right, though they may not quite match up to Shroud’s legendary status.
Summit’s experiences have been completely different, revealing “I can’t stand this video game.”
“It’s worse than Overwatch for me, for sure,” he said on stream, pained after dying.
He went on to say, “To be honest, this game isn’t my cup of tea. At the moment, I’m only playing because I want to team up with Shroud. However, I’m considering quitting altogether. I genuinely dislike it. In fact, I truly despise it. It makes me yearn for SMITE instead.”
A variety of other enthusiasts seem just as split, either thoroughly enjoying the game or strongly disliking it. It’s like playing Marmite.
