Deadpool 3’s Shawn Levy Confirms Funny Easter Egg Poking Fun At Hugh Jackman

As a die-hard fan who grew up watching both Marvel movies and musicals, I can confidently say that the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe masterpiece, Deadpool & Wolverine, has truly outdone itself. The movie is like a dream come true for me, as it perfectly merges my two favorite worlds – comic books and theater.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe is a well-oiled machine, one constantly offering new content in theaters and streaming with a Disney+ subscription. The latest movie release is Deadpool & Wolverine, which has been wildly successful in theaters. Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman‘s faux feud shines in the movie, with the pair of actors trading barbs and blows throughout its runtime. And director Shawn Levy just confirmed a funny easter egg poking fun at Jackman.

The third installment of “Deadpool” shattered box office records and continues to reveal new details and hidden references even weeks after its premiere. Known for its adult-oriented humor, concerns about the sequel tarnishing the ending of “Logan” were alleviated when Deadpool utilized Wolverine’s adamantium bones as weapons. Remarkably, the opening scene included jokes referencing Hugh Jackman’s role in “Les Miserables.” As confirmed by Levy on Twitter:

I have a bit of an affection for this, as my passions for musical theater and comic books overlap beautifully here. It’s always entertaining to witness the banter between Reynolds and Jackman, and it’s surprising how they manage to sneak in jokes that you might miss even by just blinking. For instance, the number 24601 holds a hidden joke.

2461 is the prisoner identification given to the main character Jean Valjean from “Les Misérables,” a role portrayed by Hugh Jackman in the 2012 film adaptation of the stage production. This number has since been used humorously within the “Deadpool” series, starting with a sketch in the sequel and engraved onto Wolverine’s skull in the most recent installment. Let’s crank up the “Les Misérables” soundtrack!

The ongoing banter between Reynolds and Jackman, filled with witty jabs, significantly contributed to the electrifying dynamics they portrayed in the film “Deadpool & Wolverine“. This back-and-forth was a natural extension of their characters, who eventually uncovered their mutual bond by the movie’s end. It will undoubtedly be intriguing to anticipate the humor that awaits us in future Marvel films featuring these two talented actors.

Due to the impressive critical and financial success of Deadpool 3, spectators are eagerly anticipating a reunion of Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film’s triumph contrasts starkly with recent box office flops such as Ant-Man and The Wasp: Quantumania, The Marvels, as well as less popular titles like Eternals and Thor: Love and Thunder.

For now, it’s uncertain when or if Jackman and Reynolds will rejoin the Marvel Cinematic Universe, but some enthusiasts are optimistic about Avengers: Doomsday, the next significant crossover event in the shared universe. However, since this movie is still under production, we’ll just have to stay tuned and observe how things unfold.

Currently playing is the duo of Deadpool and Wolverine, with Captain America: Brave New World set to hit screens on Valentine’s Day, February 14th, coming up next. In the meantime, take a peek at the scheduled movie releases in the year 2025.
