Demi Moore is reflecting on the 2025 Oscars.
During an interview with Time magazine, published on a recent Wednesday, Moore shared her thoughts about not winning the Best Actress Oscar against Mikey Madison earlier in the year. She revealed that, during the advertisement break before the category was announced, she had a feeling that the award wasn’t meant for her.
Moore reminisced, “I leant close and murmured to my supervisor, ‘It seems like it’s going to be Mikey.’ For some reason, I just felt certain about it.
When Emma Stone learned that Madison had won Best Actress, Moore responded by saying she felt “composed and serene.” She went on to explain, “I didn’t experience a sense of disappointment or those types of emotions. I simply trusted, and I am trusting in the natural flow of things as they will unfold.
In the film “Anora,” Madison was chosen for portraying a character who worked as a sex worker. This movie garnered five Oscars and she received recognition with BAFTA and Spirit awards for her performance. On the other hand, Moore, nominated for her role in the horror film “The Substance” (where she played an aging actress who administers injections to appear younger), won the Golden Globe, Critics Choice, and SAG awards. This places her in a strong position to potentially win the Oscar as well.
During her Golden Globe acceptance speech, Moore mentioned that this was her initial acting award, reminiscing about a past agent who had labeled her a “popcorn actress.
At that moment, she understood it to mean that such an achievement wasn’t something she was entitled to, referring to movies that were profitable and well-received. She was unable to receive recognition, a fact she accepted and believed. Over time, this belief eroded her confidence. However, Moore viewed her victory as a symbol of her completeness, a testament to the love propelling her, and a reminder that she belongs in doing something she loves passionately.
